Major Harrah's expansion

My apologies if this was already common knowledge, but I read this
in Casino City Times:

"Harrah's Entertainment Inc. will break ground in May on a $106
million expansion at Harrah's North Kansas City Casino and Hotel, a
company official said Friday.

The project will include a 206-room expansion to the hotel, which
currently has 200 rooms, said Bill Keena, senior vice president and
general manager of Harrah's Missouri operations, which includes
North Kansas City and St. Louis.

"We want to get back into being able to compete with the recent
money that Argosy put into their place and to compete with
Ameristar, and we need to infuse capital dollars in order to do
that," Keena said.
Argosy Casino in Riverside opened a $105 million renovation on Dec.
11.

The Harrah's North Kansas City project also includes renovation of
the casino floor and one bar, the addition of one bar, new slot
machine signage and an expansion of the parking garage that will
roughly double the number of parking spaces, Keena said.

The company plans to finish the casino renovation and expansion by
year's end and the hotel expansion by August 2005, he said.

The company might add some employees to the casino as part of the
project, Keena said. The company's North Kansas City operation has
1,400 employees."

Let's hope they don't feel the need to match Argosy in gutting FPVP.

No apologies needed. It wasn't common knowledge. In fact, some construction had already begun before there was any word of the changes in the local newspaper!

The proposed changes (especially expansion of the parking garage) will be welcomed.

We made the rounds to Harrah's and Ameristar yesterday and today. Hit
Harrah's Thursday afternoon for the triple points for a couple hours
-- broke even but got a pretty good return on Bonus points.

On to Ameristar where we spent the night. After a nice comped meal in
Bugetta's we hit the machines. We started working the quarter 5-play
NSUDs but Lucky Lucy didn't fare too well. After loosing a few
hundred bucks she gave up and went to the penny slots. Not long
afterward I got 4 to a royal on the flop. Held them, hit the deal and
saw a royal come up with the "call attendant" sign. Got excited, took
off across the aisle to tell LL about it, came back to wait for the
attendant. Then I noticed there was another royal! Yes, a double
header! Two for the price of one. Didn't even mind the W-2 and the
4% Missouri tax.

This morning the machines went sour for me but Lucky Lucy had a nice
recovery, lining up the 4 ducks and more than covered my losses. Good
trip.

Soap Box: I am amazed at the difference in comps and cash back from
Ameristar. I really like Harrah's, and like the fact that comp points
travel with us from property to property. But the comp/cash back
situation is driving us more and more to Ameristar. For example we
got our 'welfare' checks from Harrah's; total for both was $40. We
have collected over $300 in cash back this month from Ameristar for
basically the same play. Play at Harrah's nets us $12 to $15 worth of
comps but we regularly get $50 to $80 at Ameristar. BTW points at
Amst accumulate at the same rate for VP players as for slot players.
And no, I don't own stock or have any relatives working at Ameristar.
