Majestic Star Head Scratching Time

Well, the new marketing/mailer system is in place long enough for me to try
to figure some things out.

1) It's a weekly system. Bounce, coupons and multipoint coupons are mailed
every week. Mailers seem to reflect play from three weeks ago. I first
played 3 weeks ago yesterday and received improved mailings in mail received
today.

2) I have a suspicion that bounce may be based to some extent on losses. My
increased play generated an $80 bounce coupon, an improvement over my $15
coupons based on zero recent play. However, I took substantial (for my
action) losses during the day that this bounce is based on. My wife won and
did not seem to reduce action substantially and her $80 coupon was reduced
to $20. It's still a guess.

3) Multi point days are back. I have seen or received 3X, 5X and 7X on
Mondays or Thursdays. The multipoint offer multipliers seem to be tiered to
player.

4) In addition to bounce and multipoints, hotel rooms, buffets and Koko
Taylor comps are offered in the weekly mailers.

My most recent mailer includes $80 bounce, 2 free buffets or $40 comp to
Koko Taylor's and 5X points valid Thursday, August 17.

I like the new system a lot better than the old one and I'd make a good
guess it has brought players through the doors and increased Majestic's
action. I know it has increased my action. They are giving something of
value to the gambler which always brings people in. These incentives are
immediate enough to be perceived as a reward for play which promotes loyalty
and increases the behavior that brought about the reward. There was such a
lag between action and reward with the old system and it seemed so arbitrary
that it was treated by me as manna from heaven rather than a reward and no
behavior was reinforced. You could increase play one week and not be
rewarded for that action for weeks or months if you were rewarded at all.
The relation between action and reward was sketchy at best. It is not a
situation that increases the desired behavior, which is to get my fanny in
the door and putting money in the machines. This didn't take a marketing
genius to figure out, just someone who didn't sleep through their psych 101
course. It's still new, but seems to be a much improved system for all
concerned.

I was also seeing weekly until I didn't receive a
mailing last week. Maybe I should call them.

This week I received $100, $40 Koko's/Buffet, and a 5x
point day. On the same day, I received my promotional
'limited edition' card mailing for $70.

I had been receiving 2 hotel nights in a suite, but no
hotel coupon this time. Haven't used them anyhow.

The first of this new mailer was for $80. Next was
$125. All the rest have been $100.

I've won 4 out of 6 times since the mailers have
started. 2 times were mid 4 digit wins, one time a
high 3 digit win and once about $20. Losses were
under 4 digits.

I turned a 7x coupon into $210($30) and a 5x coupon
into $125($25).

I've double-dipped on bounceback coupons twice and wil
be redeeming the $100 and $70 coupons on Monday. I
might even pick-up the 'limited edition' card. I will
be playing.

On 4 out of my 6 visits, I used no comps and have only
visited the Superstar Lounge once in my last 6 visits.
Does comp usage play into it? Who knows.

When I was given my new black card, it had no
expiration on it.

Oh, and on all these visits, I've used the Chinatown
bus as transportaion. Works out better than I ever
thought it would. And it's free.

Who knows what any of this means.
