majestic star focus group answers

went to the majestic star focus group thursday night. the purpose of
this was to focus on a new type of mailing. they have a base of
250,000 card holders. they mail to 36,000 active players. any savings
on mailings could be substantial. they want to get rid of the
envelopes to save money. two alternatives were presented. one would
be in a large fold-out, the other would be in book form.

had a chance to ask some questions.

don and mikes sports bar. they were wondering why the bar was not
getting more play since the old bar with the progressive bonus poker
was always busy. the machine cannot be moved or angled differently.
it was suggested they try to cut out a section of bar in front of
machine so player could be closer.
they know the temperature conditions are a problem in the room. they
are trying to correct this, but being a boat there is a problem with
insulation and and venting.

the cash-out problem on non tito machines will be solved by
consolidating all machines that cannot be converted to one area. this
is in the near future.

the cash out at the cage will get better. they have a new way of
handling checks. they are also adding machines that will cash out
your tickets or break bills. there will be 3 on each level.

maintainence and housekeping on a 24 hour boat is a problem. they
don't want to disturb players.

a new public address system is in place that will be heard in all
areas of the boat. this was a problem in the sports bar

some clarification on monthly cash back mailings. the coupons are
calculated using a 2 month average. the coupons for october would be
an average of the months of july and august. they come up with the
amount given with a formula using the theoretical loss on the
machines you are playing plus your losses if any. you are not
penalized if you win. same day cash back does not affect your cash
mailings.

they are trying to reward there better players with the x points
program. there are 3 different levels of players. better players
get a higher multiplier.

they say there hosts are available for any questions or suggestions.
they will be happy to hear from the players.

Thanks for the report. My comments are below.

Being able to print out the coupons from a web page would be cool.

Most of issues got air time in this forum. I hope they made it to the
meeting.

Hmmm. I was aware of the 2 month calculation, but not that there was a
1 month gap. I thought my September coupons were for July & August. If
what you say is true (that there is a 1 month gap) then September's
coupons were for June & July and my coupons for October should be
bigger than I previously expected. Guess we'll all find out within a week.

So October coupons are for July and August. Then
November coupons would be for September and October.

Where's the gap? It's late, maybe I'm missing
something.

On all the calendars I've ever seen there's a month named September
that falls between August and October. So if the coupons cover July
and August, but are mailed at the beginning of October we have a one
month (September) gap between coupon coverage and redemption
eligibility. So in effect the coupons go back 3 months but cover only
the 1st & 2nd months of that 3 month period. When I receive these
coupons I'll be able to confirm this.

november coupons will be an average of your play during the months of august and september. there is a one month gap so they can do the calculations for cashback and get the mailings out in a timely manner.
