Subject: [vpFREE_Chicago] Majestic Madness
Most members of this group seem pretty smart. Why, then, can't anyone
figure out the Majestic Star's comp system? Three possibilities come
to mind:
1. The program's setup parameters have created mysterious operational
ills no one can cure. (We can't fathom how the system works because
it doesn't).
2. Some psycho MBAs in accounting or marketing have installed a
needlessly paranoid maze of traps and safeguards they believe will
identify and penalize players who attempt to use their casino as a
giant floating ATM.
3. Scenario 2 has given life to scenario 1.
Reagardless of what's happening in the Star's basement, a really bad
customer relations philosophy is in evidence here. I know we'd all
like to believe otherwise, but, realistically, very very few VP
players have the brains, bankroll and butt muscles needed to make VP
a viable investment -- especially here in the midwest. Most of the
Majestic's vp clients are either recreational players of varying
competence or addled addicts who continuously play bad games badly
(God bless those folks, by the way). The addicts will always show up,
so, it seems to me, the Star's comp system ought to be designed to
attract and retain comfortably funded rec players knowledgeable
enough to appreciate 99%+ vp but not skilled or committed (okay,
fanatical) enough to squeeze out a long term profit from the barely
positive opportunities avavilable with .1 CB and .2 BB.
Because of many factors we don't need to enumerate here, the number
of rec vp players able and eager to gamble regularly has increased
exponentially over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, if recent
posts here are valid indicators, the Majestic's approach to this huge
potential gold mine is all wrong -- almost moronic in fact.
Unless your goal is to enrage or alienate, you don't send a customer
who runs 200K monthly thru your machines $400 one month and $80 the
next. To keep high volume players coming back time after time (so
that you can bleed them slowly until they go broke or die), you need
a consistent, easily understood system of rewards based solely on
action level. (You don't worry about somebody winning once in a while
because, Luke, the math is with you.)
You can of course adjust your comp rates based on competitive
pressures, cash flow or simple greed, but if you want to inspire
customer loyalty, treat all your players fairly and equally. Too many
desirable customers stop showing up if you constantly mess with them.
