I experienced the same problem when I used to wait for the invites in the mail. One time a few years ago, I complained by e-mail to VIP services. I received a call from a VP of Marketing Services and great tickets for the show that was sold out. He also suggested that I contact my host for tickets in the future.
Now, when I notice the show on their web site, I send my host an e-mail requesting tickets. If you don't have a host, I wouldn't wait for the invite. I'd call VIP service as soon as the show is posted.

I get a lot of free concert offers to the arena and the
Cabaret but even if I call immediately on some occasions they say they
are sold out. Its kind of irksome to get free tickets and when you
call they are sold out. TIA
