Mailers from the Plaza and the Downtown Grand......

I see where the Downtown Grand has added some 9/6 JOB machines recently. Can anyone comment on any mailers giving to out of town players. Also anything on the Plazza would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Downtown Grand has not sent me anything in a long time. I played there a couple of times, and I came to the conclusion that they don't know how to run a casino. I can't be bothered going into a lot of detail but they did a lot of small things wrong, and didn't really seem to care. Calling them incompetent would be a compliment.

When I was at the Downtown Grand 2 months ago the craps tables were offering players can 'buy' any numbers with no 'vig'. That is a 100% payback game on a craps table where they are paying 3 dealers and a pit person. The table did have a $5 minimum pass line, but if someone else was rolling, the game was basically free for others to play. And yet, I was the only player at the table. I'm at a cross between saying, "Yes, the Downtown Grand definitely does not know how to run a casino." due to the loss that game is for them, or saying, "Geez, what does this place have to do to get patrons in???"

One of the biggest problem with the Grand is that they are off of the beaten path. Very few people are just going to wander in, most people are going there as a specific destination. The casino needs to attract repeat customers, and their main problem is that they don't know how to keep the customers coming back. The casino floor isn't where they have the problems, it's everywhere else.

I called just a bit ago. Pit boss says free buy and lay on 4, 10 only. So things must be improving for them. Calling on FPDW VP Mon.

The Downtown Grand is an absolute mess and not worth going to IMO. I tried playing there for a bit to see what I'd get but it was really nothing. Their mailers are comparable to Boyd for locals in terms of freeplay & dining. I've walked out of their restaurants about 3 of the 5 times I've gone because of lack of service & incorrect order issues. The top tier card ha no real benefits except an increased point multiplier which they may run once a week or some months they might not have it at all. Anyway even with the multiplier the quarter 9/6 or dollar bonus poker are sub-$10/hr games. I think all their games are server-based because they all tend to lock up once in a while, sometimes in the middle of a hand, and no it's not just an open door or anything like that.

They are constantly moving things around in there trying to find some sort of niche and I don't think it's working out.
