Maids.....

I can't speak for vegas, but out here in AC
-room attendants(maids) start at minimum ($7 and change per hr)
-they are given an avg of 2 rooms/hr (16 per day)
-people don't realize/appreciate how much work is required to clean a single
room

If EVERYONE (each room) tipped $2 she will make a grand total of $11/hr or
22k/year...... throw in the simon/curtis types of the world and....... yeah it
gets even uglier for her....

Seriously guys..... you can forego two .25 hands and give her 2.50
or even four .25 hands and give her a fiver

Not tipping the maid is shameful

My daughter makes about $22K per year teaching in a private school in Boston,
with a significant cost of living. I don't think that her economic value is the
same as that of housekeeping staff at a hotel. But that's where society has
priced her job, and although she loves doing it, it barely allows her to make
ends meet.

Society does not value all jobs appropriately.

Nevertheless, I still tip the maid, and give a little to the person bringing my
hand-pay, tip taxi drivers, restaurant servers, give an extra dollar above the
"included" tip for room service (even though room service is universally
over-priced), tip the bellman (but not $5 per bag, unless I just have one very
heavy one) and the doorman if he gets me a cab, and so on.

I just wish my daughter could get some gratuities as well. But it's her choice,
and she lives with it.
