I do not know personally, but a fellow I know says he was shown the theoretical ERs by a tech. It is also alleged that the effective ER is also shown.

Subject: [vpFREE] Re: Machine payback
At the Majestic Star (The Gary IN casinos that I monitor for vpfree2.) after they recarpeted and moved machines a couple of months ago, I saw the techs with sheets telling them what paytables to set the vp games to. These included not only the paytable but the same ERs we use to the hundreth of a percent. They were arranged in order from highest to lowest ER. Alot different from 10-15 years ago when the Empress (Joliet IL) had 10-7 DB with a progressive and the hacks in IL including the gaming commission did not know these were over 100%. I am also sure that almost all casinos have copies of the same software we use (Though note Stanford Wong's products have been available since 1991. I used it to generate a strategy for the above game.)
I was playing at the EW in Laughlin last month, on the over 100% quarter machines, when they were resetting them to kick out a ticket if the credits went over $400 (really) and the machine next to me was open to the set up screen for a few minutes (the tech was having problems) and there was a list of games with the theoretical payback in parentheses next to the games name [e.g. Deuces Wild (100.8%)]. The techs definitely know, because it's right there on the screen, and their bosses know also, since they tell them what to set the payback at. These are fairly new machines, I don't know about the older models, Pat
