I've read several conflicting msgs. about how what gets dealt on IGT vp machines. Some are formed opinions, some are from a read source. I had that same question a few years ago, and since I have a former business acquaintance (SW Engr.) at IGT-Reno, I asked for and was granted a visit. On all IGT machines from at least 1999 on, as soon as either 'bet max' or 'bet one credit' is pushed--or the first coin is sent thru, the constant shuffle stops and 10 cards are laid out (in sequence, not 5-under-5). I have no idea what other mfgrs. offer and neither did my friend.

Also of interest, we keep seeing how techs must be snooping around at quiet hours in the early mornings adjusting pay tables, machine speed, etc. On most of the newer machines none of that is necessary any longer. Fibre optic cabling allows nearly every function to be controlled from a central location -- similar to how you have your home telephone service changed from time to time. You don't see a tech come to your phone box any more when you add 3-way calling, etc.

Rob, thanks for the insight. It's good to see this is consistent with
the other report from IGT. It would be nice if we could find a source
from some of the other manufacturers.

Don't assume that Rob's information is correct. In an interview in
American Casino Guide 2003, IGT's firmware engineering manager,
James Vasquez, clearly states that only five cards are dealt at the
time of the deal, with the other five being dealt at the time of the
draw.
