The M resort is still giving a free buffet (or $10 in play) to new
signups. We did this midweek to avoid crowds. Even so the line at the slot club
was quite long, taking about 45 minutes to sign up. Free buffet cannot be
used on seafood nights (Fri, Sat, Sun).
Then we went to the buffet at 4 p.m. and the line was pretty small. There
is also a handicapped line on the right side. The buffet was great. I
don't know what the seafood nights have, but midweek had plenty of seafood
including crab legs, sushi (the real stuff with tuna, yellowtail, salmon -
not just some half-baked rolls), sashimi, salmon (2 different kinds including
steamed), etc. The salad bar part was kind of skimpy, but there was
plenty of choices in all sections, including some italian, chinese, pizza, and
even thai, etc. Prime rib and carved pork. In fact, so much that after I
guzzled down a big pile of sushi and salmon, I didn't really get all that much
more to be able to tell you exactly what was available. The dessert
selection didn't feature pies and cakes, just small items, but did have ice
cream (or maybe gelato) and a lot of toppings and crepes (not made to order but
they looked fresh and good).
I also noticed an Ultimate X machine in nickels, dimes, quarters, right
outside the buffet with better pay tables than the bad ones I'd seen at
Harrah's properties. Also quick quads (didn't check the paytables). We only
played for half an hour because we were with a friend, so didn't search for
the FP machines. A number of machines were multi-type as well as
multi-demonination - you pressed a button to choose between Keno, Poker (VP),
Blackjack, and slots, and then you got another screen with several different
choices for games. I saw 8/5 bonus, bad but not really that bad deuces (is
there a name for that?), and 9/5 DDB on some of these near the front door.
The nice thing about the machines is that they were all brand new, fast,
and had comfortable chairs.
The casino itself had very pleasing decor and an open, high-ceiling
design. Once you are inside though, you can get turned around easily. I noticed
the pharmacy, bake shop, and nice bars in my quick look around.
Also noticed that there are specials announced behind the club desk, such
as bonus payouts for quads of 7s on July 7th (like $25 for quarter machines
and $100 for dollars I think), and 2x points for VP on some weekdays, etc.
Seems like a wonderful place to go to play. It was cool but not cold, and
very nice. The buffet itself is an enticement for me to go back.
The bad news is that it is so far out of town, public transit doesn't go
all the way right now. I believe you can get some sort of shuttle from
Fashion show mall (call to find out). You might also be able to take the deuce
out part way, change buses, and get to Southpoint, and then take a taxi.
Even Paratransit doesn't go out there (in case you live in Vegas and have
paratransit ability, as I do). Instead you can try to arrange for them to
take you and pick you up, and if they have openings they will call you back
and confirm you can get there.
The casino has a nice mountain view, a spa, and other amenities that might
make it a nice place for tourists to stay, if they don't want to be on the
strip. I'm thinking Californians would find it nice to drive and stay for
their first night, since the drive would be a bit shorter than heading into
the strip.
No doubt because of the free buffet promotion, the casino seemed quite busy
for a Monday.
