LVSun - Plaza may hold key to downtown LV future

From: "Lawrence Boxer" <ljboxer@earthlink.net>
I know a lot of folks see nothing wrong with this kind of marketing, but in
reality it's just de facto segregation all over again, disguised as a
marketing tool that purports to benefit one or another minority group. You
end up building a ghetto where there wasn't one before. To start slicing up
the pie along racial or ethnic lines is a very bad idea.

If I'm wrong, tell me why.

The people who run the business are the ones doing the work & taking the risk,
so I've got no problem letting them use whatever kind of marketing they want,
as long as they avoid outright deception. If they think they can make more
money by specifically trying to attract Latino or gay or beautiful people, they
can try to do so (especially since they're not *banning* European or straight
or ugly people). Since the casino isn't forcing anything on anyone -- they're
only trying to *persuade* people to give them their business -- they ought to
be allowed maximum freedom.

I do see it as a big problem when the government caters to a specific group.
The government operates mainly through force, not persuasion, so they ought to
be required to treat all people equally.
