LVSun - Plaza may hold key to downtown LV future

You had the same reaction that I had when I read that.

A fascinating article, and there's no question that the downtown area

needs

to be revamped. But the following quote from the article is troubling:

"One identity being tossed around by Barrick Gaming is a resort that would
cater to Las Vegas' growing Latino population, but plans are not firm

yet."

I'd like to hear how that particular idea is in any way constructive.

"Cater

···

to (the) Latino population" as opposed to what, everyone else?

I have to agree that the downtown area needs help, and not a specialized casino. IMHO, that has been a partial contributor to the lower traffic to even the strip, besides the obvious effect of 9-11.

The theme casinos cater to special groups i.e. Hardrock, Startrek, Aladdin [nascar], Circus Circus and so on. It was fine when they tried to cater to families with kids. But, it appears the more they focus on a specific group, the more they alienate some other group. It's not bigotry, it's simply in my case for example I will not play at Circus because I did the kid thing already. My kids are grown and I have no wish to deal with other people's kids when I'm in Vegas.

If there is a "group" they need to cater to, it's the two-worker, middle-aged couple that want to get away from their kids at an AFFORDABLE price. Not something like Bellagio etc. Who wants to pay $200 a night for a room?

My daughter and her husband are the perfect scenario. In their 30's and want to "escape" their kids for a couple of days. Their budget is probably $500 to $700 for room, meals and gambling. There are a LOT of people that fit that category. Give them a clean room for $50 a night, reasonable meals and they will gamble their hearts away.
