I believe the main attraction of most gamblers is unpredictability and
uncertainty, for which they're gladly willing to pay expected value.
Machines that take that away from them aren't going to be popular.

I challenge your premise, Tom. While you are likely correct on what
attracts you, me, and many others, there are several motivations for
gamblers. There are any number of gamblers who are definitely NOT
"gladly willing to pay" when they lose. Many are very nervous about the
gambling phenomenom. Guaranteed Play is not targeted to competent,
experienced gamblers. It is more targeted to newbies and others who are
uncomfortable with straight up gambling.

The main attraction of GP is likely the insurance aspect. While not
cheap, this insurance protects against the big loss. If GP can find and
keep enough of these "nervous Nellies", perhaps it can succeed.

If Bob is right you really have to wonder what the marketing folks
are thinking when they put in GVP at quarter and $ denoms. The people
Bob mentioned are far more likely to be nickel and penny players.

You make a good point. I wonder why GP has not been introduced for
5c players. You could play a long time at the 5c with $20 in!
