LVSun - Attorney sues Las Vegas casino over ejection

It's the "ultra-liberal" California courts that seem to be the last bastion
of individual rights.

No, I'm not gay or a lawyer--but God save us from the Ashcroft-types.

Rick,

Interesting that you should say "God save us" as the 9th Circuit
held the pledge of allegiance unconstitutional because of the
words "under God." They are the last bastion of individual rights,
so long as individual rights do not conflict with the liberal agenda.
Atheism - si, free exercise on relegion - no. Affirmative action-si,
equal protection-no! PC - si, free speech-no. Social agenda -si,
individual property rights - no (IOLTA case). Democracy -si, but
must obstruct recall of Governor "Grey-out" Davis even if statute
followed. I'm all for individual rights, but their judgment seems
clouded by too much "medical" marijuana.

Really? I didn't realize that the Courts there have been fighting the state so vigorously. Which pieces of oppressive legislation have they knocked down recently? I'll need to keep a closer eye on them; previously I had read mostly 'looney' decisions from there -- like the guy to whom they gave 'workman comp benefits' after he had a heart attack while jogging just because he claimed that he was "thinking" about his work while jogging. NO LIE. I wish I had recorded the citation for that crazy case. Anyway, perhaps their recent changes for the better have just escaped my attention. By the way, what do you include within your use of the term "individual rights"? Can you tell me whether California recognizes the right to carry a firearm for self-defense? ... being that it's our 'last bastion'. More importantly and on-topic, what are its gambling laws like? Can I just go over to someone's house and get into a small stakes poker game without violating the law? You see, I consider something like that to be an individual right, too.

Cheers.
