LVSun - $1.5 billion A.C. resort shelved by MGM MIRAGE

This is an intelligent move by MGM. My opinion of course, but I did not feel the infrastructure was in place to support another casino. Atlantic City has a disproportionately high unemployment rate and on the surface it would appear then, that there is a ready labor market, but this is an illusion. Atlantic City's unemployed are likely to stay that way, many if not most are unfit for casino employment for one reason or another. Most casino employees commute to AC daily, some from nearby "nice" communities, others travel farther from bedroom communities where the cost and quality of housing is better. What AC's casinos need to do is to provide decent housing in AC to attract people who wish to live and work there. This is one of the main reasons that the economic prosperity promised to AC has not happened. The employees go home to another town, taking their paychecks with them.
