Anyone else think $100k a year or anything even remotely near that is
WAY too much for dealers? Unreal!

Actually, I don't. I believe anyone who works hard and applies their
talents should have unlimited earning potential, whether being an
entertainer, a housekeeper, or a video poker player.

I totally agree with you, Drew.

How many of us would stand on our achin' feet for long periods of
time, smiling, as drunks and cantankerous losers, cussed us out,
threw cards at us, blew smoke in our face and "accidentally" spilled
drinks on us?

I for one wouldn't have their job, for several times 100 thou!

They are making this much because of tips. Somebody thinks they deserve it.

That's how I feel about teachers!

Bit of a non sequitur argument depending on one's place in life.
There are people who would beat their bodies picking fruit in the
fields or cleaning slaughterhouses for 1/10 that amount. For several
hundred thou per year, I am more than happy to have people cuss and
throw cards at me for 40 hr/week, minus break periods. People cuss
at me now for free.

Having said that, remember the dealers at Wynn are at or very close
to the very top of their profession. So the top is 100K (now 80K
apparently). The bottom is probably not much more than food money.
On average, not all rainbows and lollipops, that's for sure.

Communism is dead, swept into the dustbin of history, so I don't see
any point in holding opinions about how much a dealer, or anyone
else, "should" earn. Such things are determined by market forces; God
Bless America.

If we're talking about how much to tip... I usually consider tipping a
matter of following custom, so I do so, but moderately (I like to give
charity, but I can think of more needy recipients than Vegas dealers),
and only during a winning session.

Quite true, Mike.

My argument became a specious non-sequitur when I assumed that I
could speak for others, rather than just myself.

Of course, everything is relative. There are much worse and much
lower paying jobs than dealing in a casino. I do realize that many
people working very menial jobs would probably be delighted with
both the working conditions and payscale of a casino dealer.

What I SHOULD have said was, that I wouldn't consider performing
their job, no matter how high the pay might be.

My condolences on being cussed w/o being being compensated. Under
those circumstances, you might as well apply for a job dealing, and
get paid for your efforts! (-:

Dear Stuart,

$100,000.00 per year for a dealer at WYNN is an incredible number.

I just checked the NJ Labor Statistics and the High average (Top 25%)
of Atlantic City dealers make only $15,000.00 per year. The second
lowest paid category in AC gaming is "surveillance". Their high average
is $35,000.00/ yr. In AC, a pit boss makes about $100,000.00. A games
supervisor makes about $55,000.00 to $65,000.00

There must be a lot of part-time dealers or the tokes are not being
included in the income statistics. No one can live on $15,000.00/year.
