LVRJ - Struggling Reno casino delivers clowning blow
Interesting article but when we tried to book a room in Reno a few
weeks ago, they were hard to come by. We had our Harrah's host in
Kansas City try to book us a room at Harrah's Reno for most any time
in April or May and there werer none to be had (we both are Diamond
level players). I noted on the internet rooms were going for $300 -
$1200 a night. So if the gambling is drying up, what the heck is
going on?

I don't know but I'll tell you this. I was in Reno last Saturday.
We were expecting it to be busy. So were the casinos as there were
dozens of empty BJ tables with dealers standing at them but no
gamblers. I thought for certain that Easter weekend would be busy,
perhaps I'm wrong in that, but we've been going to Reno on the
weekend for years and I don't know that I've ever seen it as empty as
the last couple of trips during March & April.
Reno is blaming it on the Indian Casinos in No. California (which is
their term for Thunder Valley), but I can't believe Thunder Valley
alone is causing this. But if it is then it's likely to get worse as
Cache Creek, also not too far from Sacramento, just opened a brand
new casino.
Thunder Valley is about 10 miles from my parent's
house. The VP sucks! (At Thunder Valley, not my
parent's house. THEIR VP is fine.)
ANYWAY, it's worse than the VP at KC Argosy, and
that's saying something. If I still lived in Northern
California, I wouldn't think twice about taking the
very scenic two hour drive through the mountains to
play in Reno.

PS But not in the winter. I don't do chains.
