The RJ article seems to imply that "Local's Lane" is restricted
to local players only. Is this true? Or can tourists and other
non-locals also play in that area? Do the "looser slots" mentioned,
also include full pay VP?

Thanks!

Absolutely. Every local is photographed while getting his or her
players card. Face recognition software detects any non local
person who enters that area of the casino. Because the Sahara does
not wish to make a scene in public, you will be allowed to play
undisturbed. However, upon exiting the casino security will
escort you on a one way trip to the desert. After all, it is the
Sahara. Very old-school.

As for FPVP? Sure, they have it, but you are going to have
trouble spending your winnings when you are buried up to your
neck.

Thanks for your attempt at humor. I suppose that occasionally
you are successful in this endeavor.

Apparently you do not know the answers to the questions that
I posed. Perhaps someone else does.

With the exception of certain ultra high limit salons, all gaming areas in
Nevada are open to the general public at all times.

Thanks, Cogno! I assumed that was the case, but the RJ article
was written in such a way that I was unsure. I appreciate the
clarification.

I think the implication in the article is that local players will benefit if they play there with
exclusive promotions ,such as a separate slot club redemption counter that has been set
aside just for them. Pretty much what the Station Casinos do presently as in all my years of
playing in Vegas I have never received a piece of mail from any of their properties. However I
have been approached by their hosts and offered complimentary stays and meals. The good
news for out of towners are the full pay schedules. Let's hope it starts a trend that lasts!

I think that you're spot-on right in your assessment, Mo. That was
my initial reaction also. But, after I re-read the article, it
seemed to be stating, in two places, that this area was only open to
local LV residents.

I reasoned that this could be regulated by issuing different slot
cards to locals, than were given to others, and then programming the
machine card readers to only accept those special cards.

I couldn't imagine why a casino suit would believe this to be a good
idea, other than as a way to advertise an additional perk to locals;
i.e. with large signs proclaiming: "Local's Bank Only!! Pay back Up
to 100%!!"

Anyway, I'm glad that I now know the rest of the story!

Can someone post the link to this article again? I missed it the first time and now I'm curious!

On another note, I was in the Orleans yesterday trying to find some VP to play. Millions of machines, just typical payouts, unless I missed the good ones.
I did play one for fun, which is a "pay on the deal" game - you pay one coin for the regular deal, and the second coin counts for being paid for whatever flops on the deal. I was playing ten hands and it was really fun for a while - (for instance, I got several Full Houses on the deal which were worth 200 coins each). Not a good pay schedule, but fun to pass the time.

They also had an "Ultra Bonus Poker" game which I've never seen anywhere else where the values of the Aces (with no kicker required) is 2000 coins and the four of a kinds are higher too. It was 9/6 - not bad. That was fun.

Good gosh, I think if that were to be the case all the non-locals staying at the property or
visiting it would either riot or take a hike. I know I would! Imagine being told that you can
only play bad paytables because the good ones are reserved for the locals.

There *IS* a special players card for locals.

The locals card color is gold which represents the Leprechaun's Pot O'
Gold!

I thought that it was very funny. Some people just don't have a
sense of humor at all!

Luke, Loved your responses. But others have chimed in and now I am
confused. I took the article to mean it named the area "Local's
lane" not that just locals could play there. Now, there is some
special card for locals and the machine will only take that? It
really does not affect me as I am not local and don't play slots but
this whole series of posts caught my attention. You were the only
one I could see that interpreted the article the same way I did.

Grandma~

I apologize for any confusion.

The 'special' gold card (for LV locals) acts just like any other player
card in the machines. The machines in Locals Lane accept both
types of cards.

According to the Sahara website, gold card members "....receive
bigger incentives and discounts for meals, shows, drinks, hotel
rooms and merchandise."

I only posted the link because I thought it was funny that Babe
was theorizing about the possibility of a special card for locals
when there already was a special card for locals!

BTW, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who knew what
the article meant! It just never crossed my mind that a casino
could have a designated area just for privileged players.
