Heard this yesterday evening on the local Reno news channel. In a nutshell, Peppermill employee was caught at GSR resetting machines in order to access machine info like hold %. With encouragement from management, he had already gathered info on many other local casinos.
The news summary from KOLO 8 says GCB "plans on levying a $1 mIllion fine"

Personally, I can't say this was a surprise due to what I've heard over the years about Peppermill's fierce rivalry with Atlantis. What was a bit of a surprise is that the spying extended to so many other local casinos.
Reno's main competition is not each other but the CA casinos a couple of hours away. (On a weekday, any one of the larger CA casinos has as many customers as all of Reno.) I've always thought Reno's best chance to compete was to cede the day-tripper & bus market to CA & work cooperatively on city-wide events which bring in multi-day stays which is an easy weekday comp vs CA casino's dearth of rooms. Reno does have many events throughout the year but, compared to years past, it's focus is more on properties than events. For instance, one of the old promotions was a passport where you got a stamp from each property you visited & escalating benefits as you completed the book. During events like Street Vibrations, all the casinos participated & there were shuttles to the outliers. This spying incident is sure to put a damper on any future collaboration.
