The Nevada Taxicab Authority plans to ask its board of directors on
June 23 to implement a temporary 25 cents per metered mile fuel
surcharge to cover increased gasoline costs.
LVRJ News Flash: LV TAXICAB SURCHARGE
While this might be reasonable in light of increased fuel costs, these surcharges have never been canceled, even when the price of fuel came down. Now from the airport with the airport fee of $1.20, the flag drop of a high $3.30, and $2.20 per mile + $28/hour waiting in small increments assuming the taxi is honest enough to take you direct and not rip you off the long way via the airport tunnel is a good reason to avoid taxis in Vegas. The increased CAT service this month is helpful as is a good relationship with your host so that you get picked up and taken to the airport. Hint, don't abuse comps or order more than u can eat! This way a limo ride to/from the airport is not problematic for your host.
