LVRJ - LV Rio to replace cocktail servers

This idea sound pretty lame to me. People who order
drinks don't want to have to wait for the 'show',
they want their drink.

Sounds like the Rio is getting desperate.

'Bevertainers' will take waitresses' jobs

Picture this... these bevertainors serve too many drinks and suddenly a whole row of "drunks" playing VP break out into a chorus of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"... <sigh>

Elaine,

Even worse than above [for you] is some young thing, singing off key, starts into her rendition of "My Heart Will Go ON..." by your favorite entertainer Celine Dion

Another reason NOT to go to the Rio, the first being their crappy VP.

I have heard that there ARE now some 9/6 machines at the Rio. At least on the $5 level; not sure about the lower levels.

9/6 JOB is not by any measure a positive return game. A return of 99.544%
results in significant losses, especially at the $5 ($25 per hand) level.
Las Vegas is the last venue I would play 9/6 JOB with all the other full pay
video poker that is available.

maybe as a rule of thumb but there are a number of casinos where
playing 9/6 job is a positive game especially for tourists. lvh is
an example just with cb not even including comps or mail offers.
rio/harrahs and luxor sends us generous comp offers for playing 9/6
job, dd, progressive 9/7 db. it could be better, but us tourists are
doing ok with 9/6 job. (dancer's success playing 9/6 job is a whole
other post.)

Frank, Dancer's success playing 9/6 JOB by his own admission falls under the
heading of "luck". That was no different than a megabucks winner hitting a
million dollar jackpot. If he had continued to play a negative expectation
game at the same level, he would have given back all of his winnings. MGM
shot the wheels off their own wagon by taking those games off the floor.

valid point as to his potshots. but dancer and others earned cb and
comps (and built their bankrolls) playing positive 9/6 job back in
the day when a number of casinos had vp cb of .67% or higher.

but that was then. i think we agree that it's easier to succeed
starting with a 100%+ game like fpdw.

I don't think a lot of quarter players know the special things a high roller can get. I didn't used to know this until we started playing at some higher levels ourselves and had more personal contact with others. Adding cashback, bounce-back, airfare reimbursement (sometimes by more than one casino), special promotions, invitational tournaments and cash drawings, comps that are sold, high-value coupons - 9/6 on a higher level can be very positive. And for people who would pay the price of a high-level resort experience anyway, comps have "cash" value.

And don't forget us mid-rollers, Jean. A nice combination of mailed
strip offers for the first week of April will probably get us "losers"
to drag our butts cross country once more for a LOT of 9/6 JB play on
the strip. Laying out at the pool at luxury digs is a lot more
appealing than a chill, rainy early-spring stroll down the AC
Boardwalk, and with cash incentives our play prospects are damn near
break-even.

Airfare for playing $5 single line JOB? WOW, that is news to me and truly
amazing.

Since I'm a quarter player, the best I can do is play .25 PE (99.95%) at
Harrahs in Shreveport. For my efforts on two visits to Shreveport last year
I received 4 free nights (mailings) at the Rio. BTW, I didn't play a nickel
at the Rio on the first visit and received another offer for two more nights
which I accepted. I am going to Shreveport tomorrow and it will be
interesting to see if the Rio sends me another offer. On both my stays I
played at the Palms. As a result, I am getting three nights comped upfront
in May. I never touched a 9/6 JOB machine and just don't believe you need
to play games that return less than 100%+ in Las Vegas to receive good
comps and offers.

For Vegas, I agree with you. When in Vegas, I play mostly Deuces or 10/7 DB. Lost my ass on deuces last trip. But I play some 9/6 JB for relaxation because I can play that game almost computer perfectly in my sleep. The others still require more concentration.
BUT- in AC 9/6 JB is a good option. Two places have it in quarters and a couple others in dollars. Because cashback, bounce back and comps are better in AC than in Vegas, IMHO, 9/6 JB can be an even-money proposition. About half my AC play is on 9/6 JB, and I'm just about breaking even, when I factor in cashback. I'm an AC local, so I can run in to pick up a gift or a bounceback, play half an hour and go on with my life. For people who have to travel in, it might be different.
Since I'm not a pro and have a real job (that I like) to pay my bills, being able to go into a casino whenever I want, play my brains out, eat for free, and pick up nice gifts (no trips to the mall in December  ), and lose little, if any, money, it's a good deal for me.

Rasti-

You must be a much-higher roller than I am. I'm almost strictly a recreational quarter player and only occasionally venture into dollar territory when a promotion is good.

Quarter 9/6 JB in AC works fine for me. But I'm a firm believer in different strokes for different folks.

I play the full-pay stuff in Vegas, but seem to have little luck with it. I usually go home leaving several hundred dollars behind. My last trip to LV, I lost $580, and won most of it back my first week back in AC. Go figure.

   Hit some good jackpots.

Is there a point to this series of posts or mere jealousy at the
success of others? You are arguing just for the sake of arguing at
this point.

I don't know what any of you are doing, since the subject line indicates
that this thread is about the Rio replacing cocktail servers. Do you guys
walk to school or carry your lunch?
          Nudge
Just to make an actual VP contribution for the day, did you know that when
playing a FPDW progressive and you have a K,T suited with a 9 off suit
straight penalty, you can play that hand at $1,007.00. Now this with 90
cents will get you a cup of..... well you know.
