I agree. The monorail structure itself can be made fairly light and airy. But, unfortunately,
people want to get on and off the trains. <smile> That means that stations must be built
at frequent intervals. The stations and all of the "people infrastructure" that must be built,
i.e., the walkways, escalators, and elevators make for the clutter that you so rightly point
out as being so aesthetically unbearable.
Sigh! But, something has to be done to eliminate the traffic on the Strip, with its noise and
fumes.
Back to the idea of closing the Strip to vehicular traffic and making it a pedestrian
walkway, with lawns, treees, flowers and fountains. Then, add a tram system of some sort
(like on the mall in Washington, DC) for shuttling people up and down the strip.
Again, just my opinion, of course.
