LVRJ - Herbst Gaming loses their casinos

They didn't lose their casinos -- the casinos are still there, someone else owns them now. They DID lose ownership of them.

It's like the comedian who started off about how he'd lost his job (back when that could be funny) - he said, well, I didn't really lose it, it's still there - there's just somebody else doing it now.

Later in his routine, he said he lost his girl....well, I didn't really lose her, she's still there - there's just somebody else doing her now.

Incidentally, I do agree that it's absolutely absurd to say you're doing just fine, but you just can't pay your debts. That makes no more sense than saying you're making plenty of money at the restaurant you run, you just can't afford to order the food ingredients or pay the servers or your rent. If you take on debt, that's part of your expenses now, and you'd better be able to pay it, or expect to see your business fail.

A lot of people are now learning to understand very clearly that if you can't make the payments on a debt that's secured by something, you lose the security. Unfortunately, for many of those people, the security is their home.

The real problem with all this is that usually the owners of the business are still drawing their executive pay and doing quite well personally while the company gets sucked into the ground and the creditors are the ones that get hosed. The penalties are falling on the wrong people.

Kind of reminds me of "Octomom" and the Ca./USA taxpayer.

Don't feel sorry for creditors. No one made them

True, but by creditors aren't we really saying
investors? All the little guys looking for a safe
place to put some money - not safe, but with less
volatility than the stock market? These are the
people getting hosed - they have been offered pennies
on the dollar. The big boys I'm sure will not feel
nearly as much pain. Bastards.

Typically the bold holders would be comprised of pension lans, insurance companies, mutual funds and a few individual investors. Large banks arrange the financing by placing the bonds for a fee, but would not hold onto these longer term instruments themselves.

Sure, maybe not directly. But certainly there are more than just a few
pension plans out there that invest in mutual funds and other holdings that
DO have a stake in Herbst.
