Speaking of dealerless BJ, the Majestic Star in Gary, Indiana
recently installed a Shuffle Master automated unit. Your dealer
appears at your table via plasma TV. (Actually, 3 or 4 attractive
women come and go, each with her own casino in the background.) You
can bet from $1 to $2000 per hand. According to the info beside and
beneath the dealer's screen, six decks are used, with penetration of
about 66%.
BJ pays 3 to 2, dealer stands on all 17s, you can double with any
two cards, split pairs, and double after a split. Late surrender is
also offered. Perfect basic strategy with this set of rules should
give you about a 99.66% game (a little better than 9/6 Bonus Deluxe).
I played for a couple of hours and found the game to be a pleasant
break from VP. Your player's card records your action and CB
accumulates at the VP rate. The bad news is that the big TV screen,
the shiny lights and the low minimum bets seem to attract gangs of
idiots convinced that they can actually converse with the virtual
dealer and apparently unable to decipher the one-word instructions
printed on the game's buttons (BET, HIT, STAY, etc.)
I wonder what all this is going to mean when dealerless tables hit
town,
both poker and BJ. I'm imagining all sorts of reasons for casinos
to go with
automated BJ tables, Besides saving employee bucks,"BJ Mega Hand"
jackpots
[multideck color coded special cards] tied in to many Nevada
casinos etc. Same
with Poker tables, playing in huge "online" tourneys while still
in a cash game
at your table.
When first moving here in 89' I remember crossing the strip at
Trop and
seeing striking musicians in protest to the Follies converting to
taped music.I
wonder what we will see in front of the Wynn someday soon, maybe
a strike
making the Frontier strike look small in comparison.
