LVA Question of the Day - 9 MAY 2008

It's become pretty obvious that a lot of people in this group here can't
imagine why a lot of other group people do the things they do.

I can't imagine why anyone would tip a casino host, who is reviewed and
often compensated for your playing and staying in his casino, other than as
a bribe to get more benefits than they are entitled to. Or if you're dating
them or something.

And THAT is the least highly inaccurate post in this entire thread.

Granting comps by a host is not an exact science and there is almost always a RANGE of comps available for various play levels. I have always said that tipping a host will usually get you to the top of that range. And also a gruff, demanding attitude will keep you at the bottom of the range. Of course, hosts are just human beings and they can drop below the usual range and push above the usual range, depending on many factors, including your attitude and your tipping amounts!

IMO, one of the statements below is highly inaccurate.......and it's
NOT the one posted by Jean, our VP Queen! {{O:

I don't believe that most logical people (who are not just looking
for an excuse not to part with a little money) think that giving a
cooperative and friendly host a small gift, could be construed as
a "bribe". More likely (at least with my friends who graciously tip
and gift) it is a polite gesture of the player's appreciation and
gratitude, for a job well done.

If, as a result of gifting a host with a token of appreciation, the
host goes just a little further for that player, so be it. It's
human nature to try to do things for those who are especially kind
to us. I see nothing wrong or unfair with this either.

I don't give a flying fig whether anyone else is a "stiff",
a "george", or any degree between those opposites. We are all
entitled to live by our own code of ethics. But as far as I'm
concerned, some of the happy, warm feeling I derive from a nice VP
win, would be lacking if I was not also generous with the casino
personnel who arranged my comped stay, or are present at the
propitious time of a jackpot win.

Perhaps the best way to give the host a "gift" is to mention them in the casino comment cards as th eone who helped you most in that casino. The other way is to understand the position that your host has and not to ask that you have not earned. If you are a nickel video poker player playing regular single line asking for a comp beyond the snack bar would be out of place unless this is just a temporary change in the machine you want to play right now. Of course if you are playing Megabucks with it's 90% or so payback rate at $3 a pop every 3.141592 seconds asking for the steak house wouldn;t be out of order if you are playign for any length of time. Making htere job easier is a way of saying thank you. Not over ordering at the gourment room to take home food for fido, rover, and your 2 siamese
  is also in order.
