LVA Question of the Day - 7 DEC 2010

Q: You recently wrote that Harrah´s Entertainment (now
Caesars Entertainment) will be selling stock to the public.
Can you tell us more, such as price per share, when the
stock will be available and will Total Rewards members have
first preference in purchasing stock, etc.?

Wow, the recession has certainly hit Vegas pretty hard and many other areas for that matter. I don't suppose that there would be a government bail out for Casino's..lol..Unless, someone has the goods on something that happened in Vegas with gov't officials that can rally for it..JK..
My old neighborhood in FL was a Golf Community and I lived a few doors down from Ted Williams (the baseball great) when he was still alive & after. About 2 miles from there, the woods are filled with families living in tents. It is tough all over and even high paid, degree carrying professionals have found themselves out of work and unable to locate gainful employment to meet the basic needs for their families.
For those of you Gambling Veterans, how has the current Economy affected your gambling activities this year ?

Thanks for the idea Meredith. I've been in a cocoon for the lsst three years. A week on dry land and my imagination is coming back. The economy didn't affect my gambling activities at all this year, rather the booze did.

I haven't been in Nevada for three years. The only place I still get mail from is Circus Circus. But that's because I never gave a forwarding address to the rest of the places. But what if I worked Nevada back into my gambling repertoire. Can I pull it off? What are my resources? How would I do it? What would be my plot?

Well, Meredith, you got me to brainstorming this morning. I'm definitely gonna design a play to put Nevada back in my gambling repertoie. It's gonna take a lot more thinking, but I have a starting point called Allegiant Airlines.

The plot will be for the coming new year. I got things to do today. And some more thinking on this new plot. I'll keep you posted.

The whiskey shakes are over. I'm starting to like this sober life. Have a nice day.

Actually, there is a pseudo bailout for Vegas happening right now. Due to the big casino companies paying for him to be elected, Reid is now hoping to attach a rider to the tax bill under debate that legalizes internet poker with current state licensing bodies (think NV, NJ, CA) as the ones that will hand out licenses after a 15 month blackout period of internet poker. The drafts make it appear that it's a way to squash competition right now and set the pathway for the larger casino corporations to jump in and control the market in 15 months. This would help Nevada and Reid's supporters tremendously.

Thanks for letting me know as we 'just' moved here at the 1st of November & it has been very disheartening to stroll through the empty Corridors of several Casino's. I sure hope that something turns around for Las Vegas..not that I like to Gamble during the crowded times but, if the Casino's aren't doing well - it means less comps, etc.,

Meredith, Thanksgiving to Christmas is the slowest period of the year for Vegas, just like Laughlin. Even in good times it's slow as hell. You're gonna see a big crowd in Vegas once Christmas gets here. Christmas to New Year's is the busiest week of the year in Vegas just like Laughlin.

I don't think that Xmas to New Years is the busiest time of the year. Usually it slows down as people prepare to come there for New Years Eve.

New Year's is a part of that week. Actually it's a little longer than a week. It's two weekends back to back with a little lull in between. I can get a 3 night flight/hotel package (Allegiant Airlines from Great Falls) for 2 at Bellagio midweek next week for $316. 3 day package for Christmas weekend is $620. Or a two day package for either the 26th/27th or 28th/29th for $490. They won't put a price up for New Year's Weekend, you have to call.

I think you're gonna see a busy Christmas Weekend and of course a busy New Year's weekend. But with the economy it probably won't be what it has been in the past.

And, Meredith, you should be seeing some cowboys walking around town right about now.

Not necessarily. Sometimes they sweeten the offers to get the
traffic. Dying casinos can become suddenly super generous as a last
gasp effort.

Thanks for the tip  ...
Another subject: Every Casino that I have been to has been really welcoming aside from one. The lady that signed me into the slot club was VERY rude. I have been trying to reach the manager as she was overboard rude. I asked if she was having a bad day & she sarcastically smiled & said 'Oh no, everything is just perfect.' I am glad to get better with age than bitter !

Las Vegas stole the National Finals Rodeo from Oklahoma City many years ago by putting up major prize money. It was Benny Binion's idea. It helps to fill the void between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Take care.

To start with there are several flights a year to Wendover originating from Great Falls, Butte, Missoula and Billings. The 3 night packages run about $150. I was a diamond card holder in Wendover but probably have lost that status by now. But I know enough about the slot club to know that comp can be used for future flights to Wendover. So my first flight in might cost me $150 but after that the trips will be free.
