LVA Question of the Day - 5 APR 2007

Q: What's the latest with the smoking ban in bars throughout
Nevada? Every time I hear about it (I'm a non-smoking local),
there's something different about it. A summary of where
things stand would be helpful. Thanks.

Pretty interesting what the Health District is considering to balance
the pro and anti smoking forces ... and keep some businesses from
failing (supposedly). One idea is to alternate hours when smoking is
allowed or not allowed. Two permits have already been issued.

I'm surprised that LVA didn't come up with the answer for this one.

Cindy Violette is a well known Atlantic City high stakes 7 Card Stud
player. But she got her start playing low limit in Las Vegas. I think
she was a one-time BJ dealer at the Horseshoe. She learned alot from
Stu Unger and other top pros of the day. She made herself rich playing
high-limit stud. She has one bracelet from the World Series of Poker.

She is a health food nut and I once read somewhere that she owns a
health food store or chain of stores in New Jersey. Other cardplayers
like Eric Seidel became interested in what her diet was while she was
playing long hours of poker. She has converted quite a few.

In the high stakes tournaments you are generally playing about 12 hours
a day while you are still in. Eating a meal somewhere in that time
frame can make one very sleepy. Which is not good when you are trying
to concentrate on the task at hand.

I don't know why it is but I don't even have to eat to get sleepy just
after entering a tournament with long rounds. That's one of the
reasons I avoid them.

I play the cash games and avoid eating as much as possible during my
sessions.

Away from the table I am on a strict meat and potatoes diet.
