LVA Question of the Day - 3 JUN 2010

Q: With the current epidemic of bedbugs prevailing in this
country, what steps are the hotels taking to ensure that
they are bedbug-free (and remain bedbug-free)? And what are
the hotels doing when guests report such instances? What
compensation are they providing to their guests who may not
have discovered the problem with bedbugs until they returned
home? Do the hotels use bedbug-sniffing dogs to find any
bedbugs and then take the necessary steps to eradicate them?
Along the same lines, how often do hotels changes the
mattresses? Are there laws governing the frequency of
changing the mattresses? I would think if the mattress was
bedbug infested, it would be changed, but I am also
interested in the "normal" frequency of change. And with the
high number of hotel rooms, what happens to the mattresses
once they are removed, since the number of mattresses is
significant in each hotel.
