Ah, the good old days...playing the Odyssey machines (everyone played
2 machines) at the Santa Fe, Fiesta, ACE, Gold Coast, etc...101%
Jokers and FPDW.

I got a little taste of that. It was a December, I'm thinking 1998,
Fiesta was offering cashback for your points in the first five days of
January for all your action in December. There were 3X or 5X points
periods or something like that. So I went out there and banged away on
the Four Play Deuces. Everyone else was playing the Jokers. They all
wondered why I wasn't. Well, the truth is I didn't know how to play
Jokers then. And after one look at the Joker strategy decided I didn't
want to learn it at that time. I could play Deuces in my sleep and
decided to keep it easy on the brain. I kept the Flush Attacks swept
out while I was there too.

And, like you said, everyone was banging away on two malchines. If you
can't beat them join them. I took a little trip over to Arizona
Charlie's and they were doiing the same thing over there.

Here's a little secret I never told anyone. Most of the Oddyssey's
were over by the sports book. But there were two by the Panda fast
chinese food. They were racking points at twice the rate of the
others. No one else snapped to it the whole time I was there. The
etiquette was you had to give up a machine if someone requested one of
them. So if someone was playing the two by Panda I always requested
one. I would rather play one at douuble the points. People used to
get mad and leave because they couldn't play two.

I spoke with a slot tech when I was out last night. He told me that
the initial problem was the cost of the machines but eventually the
price got lower so properties didn't mind investing in them since
they got lots of play. The big problem was the company who made the
bill acceptors. They stopped supporting them for these machines so
as new bills were produced the machines could not accept them and
people were getting annoyed that their bills were being rejected.

He actually ended up buying 2 of these machines for $67 each when
the property was getting rid of them. He said they are still
running strong with virtually no maintenance.

Does anyone know what happened to them ?Did the company go BK or

was eaten up by larger company? Richard

They make an appearance in the movie Pluto Nash (2002) with Eddie Murphy at a casino on the moon.
