LVA Question of the Day - 29 NOV 2006

Q: My apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm looking
for the best pizza in Las Vegas (either on or off the Strip).
I've heard Metro Pizza is good, but then some Las Vegas natives
told me it was no good. So I'm back to square one. What, in
your opinion, is the best pizza in town?

It's simple. We don't put casinos in Manhattan you don't make pizza or
bagels in Vegas and we get along fine.

I find Metro to be overrated, unless you opt for one of their specialty
pizzas, and not at Ellis Island. As much as I enjoy getting a free slice
and a root beer at EI every week, it's always so soggy and mushy that it's a
particularly poor representation thereof.

I do like New York Pizza & Pasta at the corner of Jones and Sahara. Very
authentic, and everyone there is always super friendly.

I wouldn't mind finding a decent pizza place on the east side of town
though. As it is my default close-to-home pie is from Big Mama's and Big
Papa's. _

Being born and raised in NYC (west side of Manhattan), I agree with

OK, guys. I was also born and "partially" raised in NYC. My 1st
address was located 3 blocks from Yankee Stadium.

However, the other and best "part of my raising" took place in
Chicago. Therefore, I can state unequivocally, that the best of all
Pizza can be found in Chicago, the city which introduced Pizza to
the USA in the 40's. Nothing can compare with a real Chicago Deep
Dish Pizza Pie! Not even in Italy can one find just that proper
blend of buttery, crunchy crust, rich tomato sauce and perfectly
spiced sausage, that is absolutely unique to Chicago style Pizza.

Man, I'm getting hungry! It must be lunchtime!

So, go ahead, call your cab to airport, but get on a plane to
Chicago instead of NYC. It's a shorter, less expensive, non-stop
flight.

Once in Chicago take another cab to either Pizzeria Uno or Pizzeria
Due (where it all began) or to the relative newcomer, Lou Malnati's.
I promise you that you won't be disappointed in the Pizza!

Good directions except:
3. Fly to Chicago Midway Airport (closer to downrown than Ohare)
5. Go to downtown Chicago
6. Find deep-dish pizza.

However, I agree that NYC bagels cannot be beat.

Bob who prefers deep-dish over thin
