LVA Question of the Day - 27 FEB 2006

Q: Years ago, I read a statistic that said that the average
person who walks in the door of a Vegas casino walks out with
$35 less due to gambling. Is there any current calculation of
the average person's loss?

$35 per customer seems to be in the ballpark.

In Louisiana, the casinos are required to report every month their
actual count of customers who walk through the door, along with how
much money the casino won from customers during that month. So "win
per customer" can be readily calculated. The numbers fluctuate of
course, but reports in the range of $30 to $60 won per customer are
typical. The figures tend to be somewhat higher for the Shreveport and
Lake Charles area casinos - presumably because of all the wealthy
Texans driving over from Dallas and Houston.

What does a customer mean? If I go to 3 different casinos in a day, would I be counted all 3 times? Thus, my average loss per day would really be in the $90 to $180 range. Not many people who visit LV/AC/Biloxi (pre Katrina) stay in 1 casino all day (my opinion and experience).

The casino doesn't know (as a general rule) what other casinos you have
visited that day. So in your example you would be "3 customers" - one
for each casino.
