LVA Question of the Day - 24 OCT 2006

Q: Is there a comprehensive list of the "midnight specials"
offered by casino restaurants? These offer some of the best
deals in Vegas, since the inexpensive buffets now seem to
be a thing of the past. Thank you.

Why are the times the specials are on cut off the list of graveyard specials?
Thanks

Has anyone analyzed the more unusual games that are available on All-Star poker? For example, I know that 9/6 Jacks is played the same way for single line, 3/5/10 play, and Spin Poker. That is, these types of multi-line games don't affect the strategy at all. I think the same holds true for Super Times Pay, but I'm not sure.

However, All-Star poker also usually comes with several other interesting variations: Five Aces, Chase The Royal, Trade Up, and possibly others that I can't remember at the moment. Does anyone know what the returns are on these games for the typical paytables offered?

I found information on the wizardofodds site for most of these game variations, with the exception of Trade Up.

John, I've given up on the 'all-star' machines, as found at the Palace Station. Its a quick way , to stay at one seat, and play nothing but short pay machines, and ignore the Full pay "non-bundled" machines found in other locations in that same casino. I don't believe this casino-friendly strategy was an accident!
As far as some of those games you mentioned - go individual machines:
5 aces - try the tamarack junction in Reno, otherwise short pay
Chase the royal - not sure, but believe all its version anywhere are short pay. This game started out like gang busters, but greedy casinos lowered their pay schedules so nobody bothers anymore.
Trade up - try the Peppermill in Reno for full pay. I believe the Palms has a good version also.

regards...Tom

I for one was looking forward to All-Star poker because it has double pay built into it. Very few of these games left on stand alones. Was looking forward to be able to play double pay in nickle version. But Station casinos don't activate double pay. But they do activate the more poplular game such as super times pay which can be found throughout the casino. So for me these machines are a waste. Also the times I did find double pay activated in other casinos in was on dollar machines.

If your a fan of "double pay" you may want to check out the Atlantis in Reno. They have double pay in 5C/10C/25C combined with spin poker and offer the highest EV of double pay lot - the 9/7 triple double bonus poker.

The two All-Star Poker machines at the Rampart offer Double Pay with a
choice of underlying VP like DB and DDB at the 5c level. Can't help
you on the paytables, but my guess would be in the 98% range.

The 99.9999999999999999999 DDB 5 Aces at Tamarack is long MIA. Also,
keep in mind that it's only 99.999999999999999 if you know the
strategy and play it correctly. Also keep in mind that you better flop
the Aces w/kicker thingie on as regular basis if you don't want to be
feeding the machine constantly.
