LVA Question of the Day - 23 MAR 2006

Q: My wife and I go to Vegas every six weeks or so and
would like to know if there are any cigar/piano bars left.
I don't mean a honky-tonk bar, just easy jazz and martinis.
The last good one was Hamilton's at New York-New York.

The Question of the Day at LVA listed places that you could get a
cigar and maybe some tunes. Maybe they don't get downtown? They
missed the Chicago Brewing Company in the Four Queens. Maybe it was
disqualified for having some bartop VP?

No tunes, but some comfy chairs, homebrews and decent pizza. Though,
it is bit of a cave of a place.

But what bothered/puzzled me about the LVA answer was this quote:

Gustav Mauler, inside J W Marriot

"Apparently, the venue used to feature live music, but they informed
us that there's some kind of ruling that dictates you have to charge
an extra 10% if you offer live music within a casino venue, so they
axed the live music and only have the recorded stuff now."

I remember a new Nevada music venue tax hitting the books a year or
two ago. But I thought it was for paid admissions in venues of a
certain size? Anyone know the particulars of the new entertainment
tax?

I would submit this inquiry directly to LVA, but my Forum access
(paid or free) over there has been goofed up for over a year
now, "cookie error".
