LVA Question of the Day - 22 JUL 2007

Q: There are so many malls along the Strip: Miracle Mile
Shops, Forum Shops, Fashion Show Mall, etc. Do you know
what the total square footage of all the malls is along
the Strip? I'm sure it must be some absolutely amazing
number.

The only measure with which I can work is personal experience,
however, that said, I have had pehenomenal success with the short
term strategy.

I play $5 and $10 DDB three line at Bellagio. I have never had a
trip or a machine in which I did not have a BIG Jackpot. After the
jackpot, if I do not have success within a few (my number is 12)
hands, I move on.

The professionals can try to feed me the random card generation chip
fallacy about machines not having hot streaks, but I am fully comped
with room, food, and shows and over the last five years I have had
only two trips in which I took home less than I took to LV; both of
those were less than 1K and included taking my wife and adult
daughters who "steal" money from me at every opportunity to play
slots.

Every machine without exception has a big payout in it. A player's
job is to manage his/her losses until that payout comes.

Last trip I was down around 10K and then I hit 4 dueces then 4 aces
and then two Royals on a five dollar three line machine. After
that, the machine got cold and I moved.

After I moved, another player who had been watching me sat down and
the machine stayed cold.

I play for fun, but for me, fun includes taking home more than I
take to Las Vegas.

I know what you mean. My cousin's 17-year old daughter has had unprotected
sex lots of times and never gotten pregnant. So much for the so-called
"experts."

Congratulations. I have lost far more than 1K during a trip playing
quarters... on multiple occasions. And playing games I have some
profficiency in and with far better ERs than DDB. I just didn't know it was
as simple as finding the lucky machines. Sweet.

Big Jim ... I'm with you. Who the hell needs classroom theory when
you've got personal experience? I want to copy your style and
become a consistent winner.

I've got the "hot" machine part down ... give it 12 more hands and
move on. But what about those "cold" machines which appear to be
everywhere? If every machine (in your experience "without
exception") has a big payout in it, would you not continue to play
a "cold" machine until it eventually hits? And what do you do if
you can't find that "hot" machine to recover your losses? Perhaps
these are just concerns for the unexperienced.

I think your ideas could also be applied to slot play and hope you
will supply more detail so others can emulate your success.

This is one of those posts of the type for which the Admin suggested
an advisory preface, right??

An unrelated comment: I consistently find your posts to be pithy,
dead on target yet expressed in an understated manner that almost
masks the strength of the inherent wisdom. I'm led to expect that
those fortunate enough to be around you during troubled times reliably
look to you for guidance (and more than a little common sense).

I understand these tongue-in-cheek responses. Clearly, the poster has
made up his mind and is not about to be dissuaded by facts. However,
it also saddens me a little since I've come in contact with so many
people who once felt the same way. What to these people say
today ... "the machines just don't pay back like they used to ... ".
In other words, they now believe the machines themselves were changed
rather than understanding they had been lucky. I guess if you're
going to ignore the facts to begin with why should I expect them to
believe them now. Unfortunately, I see many of these people still
playing and searching for that elusive "hot machine" while they lose
more and more money.
