You could change hosts. If you and a spouse play, have the other
change host. Or you could change, asking for different host
mentioning something crazy like, "I don't want the wife to know how
much I play." If you don't care just tell the true story; the host
isn't doing his job. Most casinos don't like to change host for you,
but they will. In big places there is usually one host that will
steal customers form another host and enjoy doing it. Find that
person and you have a new host.
I have a host at one property who screws things up about every 5
trips. I call a few days before I get there and confirm he got it
right. I also call a couple hours before getting there to reconfirm.
I shouldn't have to do this, but I like the host. A couple calls
insures that all will be ok when I get there. I guess the host is
doing an excellent job of training the customer.
Cheers....Jeep
Super interesting question, which leads me to a follow-up: what
does one do when one's host doesn't live up to one's expectations? As
a concrete example, my hosts' assistant specifically told me that she
had made two show reservations, which were the main reason for the
trip. Neither reservation was made, and followup phone calls to the
host went unreturned. In addition, previous reservations for dinner &
shows were messed up directly by the host, wrong times, etc. His
attitude is generally uncaring, and when these issues are brought to
his attention, I barely or rarely get an "I'm sorry", never an offer
to compensate for the screwup, and usually a litany of HIS
problems.
I know from correspondence with other players at this casino that
Directors have little power, only VP's do, but as a next-to-the top
level player, one would think a bit more schmoozing might be in
order. I might also point out that I visit the casino 95% midweek,
never ask for special treatment such as comps to events I don't
qualify for, and don't go on holidays/weekends when they're most
crowded. What would you suggest my course of action should be? I
don't want to be put on someone's S List, but I do want to be treated
like a valued customer.

Subject: [vpFREE] LVA Question of the Day - 21 FEB 2009
Q: What do a casino host's duties include besides booking rooms
and dining reservations for his clients? How much can he "give" a
property visitor and is there a ladder he can climb in corporate
gaming?
