LVA Question of the Day - 20 JUL 2010

Q: Are "resort fees" taxable income for hotels? I've seen
people on the LVA message board claiming that hotels prefer
to add resort fees instead of raising rates because the
resort fees aren't subject to sales tax. If that's the case,
what's to stop hotels from charging a $1 room rate with a
$68 "resort fee"? To me, it's income that the hotel is
bringing in and should be taxable. Who is right? (... and,
either way, I'm anti-resort fee. I'd rather see hotels
advertise their actual rates, not fake lower rates that come
with mandatory fees.)

I don't know about anyone else, but the couple times I tried to access the URL for the answer, it's always a different question that's posted (and answered). Today's Q&A is about things to do with kids (not resort fees), and it's dated 7/21. Could these somehow just be a day off by the time we see them?

"These" are not a day off....you are.

If you click on the link on the same day that the Administrator posts them,
you will see the correct information.

This is on the bottom of those posts:

"NOTE: vpFREE access to the Question of the Day link has

So if you click on a day old or more post you get the current days

They actually had the problem on the LVA site a few times during the past week where the emailed question didn't match what was actually on the site. They also had a problem where the latest poll results showed all zeros for a few days (all choices showed zero responses, yet were tied with 1% of the votes). Those things are rare but they do happen - even if you click on them within minutes of getting the QoD email from the LVA.
If you do check the QoD a day after getting the email, it will be a different question though, since they are only up for a day.

Take Care,
Mark
