LVA Question of the Day - 18 SEP 2007

Q: What ever happened to the Showboat Hotel and Casino? It
changed to Castaways and from there I don't know what happened
to it. Is it open as something else or did it get torn down
to be replaced?

Here's the end of the answer followed by a question.

However, something will be happening at the site soon. In order to

protect the Castaways' grandfather zoning clause, which allows Station
to build a big casino without the required hotel rooms, the company
"must have active gambling at least one day every two years." The
Gaming Control Board recently approved Station's application to
operate a small trailer on the site with 16 slot machines for eight
hours. No date has been announced for this unusual gambling
experience, and Las Vegas city officials also have to approve the
application.

But the name of the place would have to be Trailer Station.<<

Has anyone ever played at one of these "one day every two years"
gambling events? I'm sure these events come up rarely. How many
think they might go just because the opportunity may not come up for a
while?

I remember the old Harold's Club in Reno did this at least once. I
did not go, and really can see no reason to participate. With 16
slots in operation at the "Trailer Station" I bet drink service will
be very good or better bring your own.
