LVA Question of the Day - 13 JUN 2007

Q: Not a question, but a comment on QoD 5/31/07. You wrote,
"Thousands of people have complained to the Health Department,
which not only has no enforcement teeth (its agents are
unarmed)..." What would you have them do, shoot us smokers on
sight? Maybe prison would be a good option - "Whaddaya in
for?" "Me? Smoking a cigarette." I always loved Vegas because
it was one of the last true refuges for smokers. Guess I'm too
un-PC. Maybe, with any luck, all us smokers will die off in a
great mass extinction. That would make the rest of you real
happy. Let freedom ring.

Interestingly I've never seen an armed meter maid.

This is one of the problems with these types of laws in general.
Does the public really want "armed enforcement" of laws that
prohibit acts such as smoking in a privately owned business?

This goes to the core of the larger debate about legislation that
impacts personal freedoms.

Business owners (at least successful ones) will always do what's
best for business, and each of us as individuals will always do
what's in our own best interest (or not -- as we choose).

Government oversteps the consent given them by the governed when it
passes laws that "create" criminals of otherwise law-abiding
citizens.

No, I'm not a smoker.

Just my 2 cents
