LVA Question of the Day - 13 AUG 2010

Q: Can you discuss the legality of alcohol in limos? The
property I used to stay at would pick my wife and I up in a
limo and it was always stocked with beer. My host at a
different property said they weren't allowed to have alcohol
in their limos. Is it illegal to drink in a limo or to
provide free drinks in them?

Sometimes I used to have a drink while in a Limo from the airport.
I don't understand why you can have a drink in a paid limo but not in the casino limo. I don't buy that and don't have a horse in the race as haven't had a drink in 3 months

The answer is wrong. Drinking in comped limos is fine.

I think the LVA focussed too narrowly on the "for hire" part of the phrasing and missed the word "primarily" in front of it.

Limos are primarily for hire. The fact that your particular limo ride may be comped doesn't change that; someone IS paying for the limo, just not you. So in my completely non-expert legal opinion, drinking in the passenger area of a limo is perfectly fine, whether the ride is comped or not.
