LVA Question of the Day - 13 AUG 2006

Q: After reading about the RFID bottle caps at Treasure
Island and remembering about RFID gambling chips at the
Wynn, I got to wondering if this is a trend. Do you think
surveillance-happy Las Vegas will employ more RFID
technology as time goes along?

I read the article referred to here.

Associating the chips with the player, and tracking them as they move
among various people would result in more problems than the casino
could imagine. I don't think this will happen, or if started, it will
be quickly abandoned.

Imagine if every time you withdraw money from the bank, getting your
name attached to the dollar bills.

The technology has its uses, but not in the way LVA (or whoever
supplied them the answer) foresees it.

A Myth
