But I will have to tune in on the subject of using coupons on a first
date. This is really the ONLY way to find a frugal mate if you are frugal
yourself. Not only would I be disappointed to find a man who had a coupon
and didn't use it - my perfect man was delighted when I pulled out a
coupon I just "happened" to have in a baggie of coupons in my purse "just
in case" he had chosen a restaurant that I was "prepared" for!!!! And you
can bet when he asked me for a restaurant choice, I ALWAYS chose one for
which I had a coupon!!! Brad says I am nutty frugal - but he loves the
lifestyle my frugalness has made possible for us!!!!
My impression was that the man used the two-for-one coupon to pay for
himself, with the woman putting up cash for her own meal and thus providing
the "one." Thus, the man was free-riding not just on the casino, but a bit
on her, leading to her objection even though no more cash came from her
pocket than if he'd paid cash for his half.
Others seem to have interpreted it differently, generally making the woman's
objection seem remarkably petty. I'd argue that finding out that someone is
cheap, or that someone is petty, is the most valuable thing learned at that
meal, and these patrons should be extremely grateful to the restaurant for
providing that opportunity.
