LV Report 4-12-06 (11 of 12)

Because I was feeling a bit rotten last night, I went to bed
around 9:00 PM, and therefore, was up around 4:00 AM. This is all
just so messed up. But it could always be worse. It's just a
little discomfort and more of an annoyance than anything else.

After watching Sports Center, I finished the report and
played a little poker online and finally just checked out.
Technology can be a pain in the neck sometimes, but others like TV
checkout are the best. Hit a few buttons and you're done. I picked
up some orange juice and made a stop at the Palms to try my luck
with those 9/6 JOB 50-play. Again, just can't seem to get any
luck. Oh well—maybe next time.

My last hotel stay is at Main Street Station (MSS). For the
past couple of years, they've sent me small yellow postcards
offering two free nights and double points. However, about six
months ago, they stopped coming. I wasn't surprised. I hadn't
given them much play during the stays I had there. However, about a
month ago, I got a letter reading, "We haven't seen you in a while,
and we miss you!" It then went on to offer me two nights free stay
(but no double points). So, here I am in a room that is a little
too heavily fragranced. But as I've noted in previous reports and
many of you are well aware, MSS has remodeled their rooms with much
nicer mattresses, a desk and chair, two nice reading chairs and an
ottoman. Altogether, they've made the most with what they have. If
ONLY they'd get curtains instead of the shutters for the window.

The progressive on the Joker's Wild bank of machines is high
enough to warrant some play, and I want to keep the offers coming
from here. I played for awhile and managed a cash-out but didn't
hit any premium hands. Main Street Station has a very nice, little
casino and they maintain it well keeping up with the latest new
machines. They still offer a scratch off card for any natural four-
of-a-kind or higher for an extra couple of bucks. There's an old
reel-spinner penny Cleopatra machine that I've always liked and
played it for awhile. It's a pretty tight machine, but on this
occasion, I got a big hit of 2000 on it (of course with pennies,
this is only $20), so if nothing else, this was a nice morale
booster for me.

I went back to my room to get my black, dress shoes. I was
going to take them over the Golden Nugget where there's a shoeshine
stand by the men's room. On my way walking through the California
Hotel, I saw a nickel progressive that the royal was over twice the
normal payout. After getting my shoes cleaned and shined, I stopped
to play a little, the deuces were ugly, but that's okay with this
progressive. Unfortunately, no deuces this time around. It's been
a deuces bonanza for me this trip hitting them nine times now (and
not counting hitting four 2s twice playing other games). Before I
leave, I hope there's going to be a tenth.

I headed back to my room to rest a bit before driving over
to the Aladdin where I'm meeting Martin for the Fab Four show, which
I missed yesterday. I was about a half hour early when I got to the
Desert Passage mall, where the show is at, so I sat down at the
Salsa Mexican food joint for a beer and watch a game on TV to kill
the time. The Desert Passage mall is slowly going through its
turnover to Planet Hollywood, which bought out the Aladdin a year or
so ago. This is, by Vegas standards, the slowest turnover I've ever
seen. They're taking small areas at a time, moving the few stores
in the space, and boarding it up for the change over. Why they're
even spending the money to do this is bewildering to me. The mall
is owned by a different company than Planet Hollywood, and though
you can walk into the casino from the mall, they really aren't all
that connected. The Desert Passage could very well stay as it is
and Planet Hollywood would do just fine. But what do I know?

Martin arrived and we watched the Fab Four using his comp
tickets that came with the room package. This is the third time I've
seen the show, twice when these guys were at the Hilton and now here
in the V Theater. (The V Theater is simply the old food court
converted over). The show was the same though there was a new guy
playing Ringo. I enjoyed it as much as the first time I saw it.
The audience just goes nuts during this show. One girl in front of
Martin and I was constantly jumping, screaming, whistling, dancing
and enjoying herself. Even the guys on stage couldn't help but
notice her throwing her a souvenir T-shirt during the show. I still
think (with the 2 for 1s easily available in all the local mags),
this is the best bargain in Las Vegas. These guys are really
exceptional.

After the show, we walked into the Aladdin for me to use my
40 for 20 coupon. I also got ANOTHER souvenir cup. There are a
small bank of 50-plays against one of the walls that have full pay
schedules in them. I put in a twenty and after playing that
through, the extra $20 popped up, which you do have to play through
(hence the 40 for 20). I managed to cash out $27.00 for a little
seven buck profit. The cold was starting to take its grip on me
once more, so I headed back to MSS. Martin, on the other hand, was
going to drive back to the Palms to use some free play and play some
live poker until midnight.

I realized it was 9:00 PM, and I hadn't had a thing to eat
yet today. I walked over to the California Hotel (the California
and MSS are connected by a walking bridge), and no one had hit the
progressive royal yet. I tried another twenty, and even though I
was dealt four-to-the-royal twice (both in hearts), I didn't
connect. I guess this is going to be one of those royaless trips.
I picked up a teriyaki beef bowl at their deli and took it back to
the room. It was lights out at 10:00 PM after once again trying to
see if this expensive cough medicine could have any effect.
