A change I haven't seen before at the airport (McCarran):
Southwest usually flies out of the C gates, and it carries
the majority of Las Vegas passengers. So that usually
means a long queue for security.
A little-known trick is to use the D-gate security, and
then pass through to C gates. Today I tried that trick, and
discovered a glass wall with locked glass doors between C
and D monorail terminals.
A TSA guy was coming through from C and I asked if I could
get over to C. He said no, I would have to go back out past
security and come in through C gate security. He said
sometimes when there's a lot of people in line, they open
the doors. Hmmm, what's the purpose of the doors then?
So I went to ask the Metro guy sitting at a podium. He
said sure, if you need to cross over to C just ask any TSA
agent or the Metro officer on duty and they can let you
through. Obviously, it's a rule which is being interpreted
differently by individuals.
My advice is to use D security if you're in a hurry and
you're ready to assert yourself. If you don't want to have
to argue, and don't mind waiting in line, stick with C.
