LV Hilton -- To Host, Or Not To Host?

That is the question.

My wife and I have stayed at the Hilton twice in the last 18 months
and we put about $7500-$8000 through the machines each day. We will
be staying there again in a month (and probably again in August) and
we are booked in on a "3 nights free" deal and we have a coupon for
$25 from the cage as well.

Thus far, we have not bothered speaking with a host...it just does not
seem like there is much more a host will do for us above the offer we
come in on and the cashback/comps that build up on the card while we
play. Am I right? Or should we contact a host while we are there to
see if we can get anything additional?

If we speak to a host, is there anything specific we should shoot for?
I'm very happy with what they have given us, but I would always like
to get even more!

Thanks!

Ken

Just my recommendation. No inside knowledge other than having spent a
lot of time at LVH, but always comped upfront.
I believe I would recommend that you check with a host upon departure
if you have room charges that exceed your earned comps. (I have had
good treatment from Gloria Dennison--I also would recommend that you
try to call her on the phone several hours before you check out
rather than go to the host's office. She no longer has desk duty in
the office to help drop-ins, but rather spends a lot of time on the
floor with her "charges"). If you are a LITTLE over on room charges,
they might very well pick it up. Expect to have to burn your comp
points before you get anything further from a host. Otherwise I would
just take advantage of the marketing offer. Be sure to play on one
card. I hope you were not a devotee of Andiamo's, because they have
completely re-worked the menu. In my opinion this restaurant was hurt
substantially by the re-work.
I would be curious to know at what rate you earn comp points.

Thanks for the reply...to answer some of your points/questions...

Given the way we like to dine, I would expect us to spend more on food
than we will get in comps...so asking cannot hurt!

A number of people have recommended her. The one time I spoke with
her (on our first visit to the Hilton), she was quite abrubt with me.
She definitely seemed to be in a bad mood and it soured me on the
whole host thing. I will try and speak with her this trip and give
her another shot. Everyone is allowed to have a bad day.

Be sure to play on one card.

We put virtually all of our plan on my card. We put a couple hundred
dollars onto my wife's card each trip just to keep it active -- we
used to frequent Paris (before we became comp-conscious!) so we each
had accounts there that included the Hilton.

I hope you were not a devotee of Andiamo's, because they have
completely re-worked the menu. In my opinion this restaurant was
hurt substantially by the re-work.

I'll keep that in mind. We had not yet tried Andiamo, but it was a
place I was considering. We both love Italian food...but I would
rather try Mistral if Andiamo is questionable at all. Have you eaten
there? The last time we were in Vegas (October; before Mistral
opened), one of the Concierges at the Bellagio said he expected it to
be fantastic. I figure that is a good sign!

Another question...can meals at Mistral be billed to your room? I
cannot tell if this restaurant is "private" or directly affiliated
with the hotel.

I would be curious to know at what rate you earn comp points.

I can give you numbers from our last trip. We earned almost exactly
800 points during the 3 nights we were there...and received $132
between comps and cashback (I mistakenly combined them in my gambling
log). I cannot remember exactly, but cashback was right around
$80...and that fits with the 0.33% value from the database. The
remaining $52 would be comps...for a rate of just over 0.2% comps and
a combined rate of 0.55%.

I will keep even better track of comps and cashback on this trip and
report back afterwards.

Hope that helps!

The very first time I ever went to the Hilton, I immediately went to
the slot club counter and signed up. I also asked the boothling "Any
good promotions going on now?" He said no.

That turned out to be wrong. I forget the details now, but it was
something where members could get extra points on their account if
they entered a contest (or something like that). It could be the
host would have given me the correct answer if I had made contact
with her.
