LV auto rentals

Will be arriving at LV on 12/23 for a week. Auto rentals seems to be
much higher than normal. Does any one know of listings of car rental
deals or suggest a sorce for a reasonable rental? Alternitively, is
there a good source of public or casino tranportation from the
Sumerlin area to the strip (Palms or Caesars)? Thanks.

David

I too am coming into town at about the same time. I couldn't
believe how high rentals were. The roughly 25% in taxes doesn't
help.

I checked all the major companies, and I found National to be a good
deal cheaper than the rest. If you have AAA you can use the
discount code found on their (National's ) web site. You can
probably do about $220 (before taxes) for a week for a decent sized
car. Doesn't sound like a bargain, but most of the other companies
were closer to 300/week.

Good Luck
Elliot

When I first started going to Las Vegas regularly
18 months ago I was so cheap that used the local bus
system which is very good by the way. I even purchased
a roll of bus tokens through their web site which they
mailed to me at public expense. I also applied for and
received a senile citizens discount card which I
believe is good for five years which allows one to
ride any bus except the "Strip bus" for one token
which costs $.50!! Lately, I like to hustle the
coupons and promotions at local casinos so I always
rent a car. I use Dollar, they give me double miles
credit on my affinity credit card (I use one
affliliated with America West) and their terminal is
very close to the airport and on the downtown side.
Alamo and others share some terminals that are around
a 15 minute van ride away through the Paradise Road
tunnel!! That has some value to me, it is hard to put
a dollars and cents valuation on that time savings.

Found a $10 a day special at Enterprise (for up to 5 days). Booked on

No hard sell to buy "their" insurance? And if you turned it down after the
30 minute attempt, did they not practically call you a criminal and a
deadbeat and threaten to charge your credit card thousands of dollars if you
brought the car back dirty? I have rented from them twice in my life time
and if they PAID me ten dollars a day , I would not do it again. NEVER,
NEVER,NEVER again, will I go through that with Enterprise. They make the
time share salespeople appear "soft".

I've rented from Enterprise many times and they've never given me a hard
sell on insurance. They do get excited about selling upgrades. Aside from
that, Enterprise consistently has the friendliest, best-trained staff in the
business. Your comments sound more like experiences I have had with Dollar
and Thrifty.

ROTFLOL, I have rented hundreds of cars over the past twenty years from
numerous vendors, mostly for business. None of them even come to close to
my two Las Vegas Enterprise nightmares. Thanks for the chuckle though. I
just remembered that a few years ago, my insurance company sent me to
Enterprise (Dallas) for a loaner while my car was being fixed. Enterprise,
is friendly, I'll give you that. That is why they like to come and pick you
up and drive you back to their agency. Page 22 of the Enterprise manual,
states that you should become the renters "best friend" and just casually
slip him the forms to sign for that BS insurance, just as he puts on his
seatbelt. When he refuses, act hurt, like we are best buddies, how could
you turn this down? If that does not work, move immediately to the bull
dawg, "this is going to cost you buddy" hard sell mode. Again, thanks for
the laugh.
