Lucky Number Seven

I’m not one to post a GEE GOLLY I WON BIG thread, but I just wanted to let my greater emotional support group that I managed to erase all the ugliness of a very, very bad year on Friday, 7/7.

The location: Caesars. The device of my pillaging rampage: The Super Times Pay machines (ten-play 25c 9/6 jacks).

I already had gotten a royal that day and had had a glorious, 8x and 10x filled day and was $2030 up (easily my best day of the year) when I sudden got very sleepy at the very early hour of 8pm (this is REALLY bizarre for me; it generally takes tranquilizer darts to put me to down before midnight). I abandoned the wife and tried sleeping a while in our room, but could not quite doze off. Came back down around 9:30, found wife, and soon was able to reclaim my lucky machine (again, kind of weird; usually can’t get a seat on those things on a weekend night). Promptly off to the races again, with plenty of 4x, 5x, 8x, and 10x multipliers. At about 10pm, got dealt Kc, 10c, and the multiplier pops up in the middle slot…10x (a hopeless optimist, I’m already daring to hope)…it finishing the deal Ks, Ac, Jc!

There is probably not a more entertaining set of occurrences in gambling than getting dealt four to a royal on a ten-play STP in 10x mode. It’s exciting to see a potentially great hand start to form; it exciting to see the multiplier kick in; it’s exciting to see the multiplier settle in on 10x; and it’s an absolute heart-stopper to see the rest of the hand form. But, this abused puppy had seen WAY too much cruelty at the hands of evil fates over the last 14 months to really expect the Queen of Clubs to make an appearance. I begged, pleaded, pressed the button, and frantically began scanning the hands for a very, very large number. The number 40000 popped up at hand number (where else?) seven. I made a sufficiently loud noise to cause my wife to come running over from about 200 feet away.

We called it a night shortly thereafter (there isn’t much point in trying to top that). The next day, I couldn’t help myself, I had to see if the magic continued. Couldn’t get a STP machine and was soon $600 down on single line dollars. Sigh. But, erased that deficit on 50c multistrikes, and soon wound up back on the STPs. Two royals later (the normal kind) and endless dealt goodies and multipliers, we wound up ahead another $2218. Total haul for the weekend: $13,948, putting us way ahead for the year.

Next time you’re playing one of the two full-pay STPs at Caesars, think of me. You might as well, I’ll probably be sitting behind you, waiting to get on the machine.

Congrats John - way to go and many more 10X royals to you! But whats a local like you playing at Caesars ? I thought that place was "local unfriendly" ?
...Tom

[ John hits 10x RF]

Nice hit....

I know of a $120K hit and drawing live to a $320K hit with one to go
(on the latter, he didn't make a royal, and he didn't get back very
much after the draw) on a $1 10-play machine in the midwest. It was on
the same day, and a husband and wife team. The husband had the 8x hand
first, then the wife hit the same evening on the 3x hand. Consider
that a dealt royal is a 652,000 to 1 shot. Also consider that one in
every fifteen dealt royals will be with the multiplier, every fifteen
dealt 4Ks, etc. and if I remember correctly, every tenth multiplier
card is the 10x number. You add it all up, and the paytable suddenly
becomes very top heavy.

The husband and wife gave most of the money back, and switched to
something more sensible, like 10-play Super Aces and 10-play Super
Double. Yes, "something more sensible".

I've played it a few times for quarters and found myself down $2K
regularly. One day playing it for halves , I hit a royal and still
lost $4500 playing 10-play in about 4 hours.

STP is fun to play, but keep in mind when losing, you might not be
running as bad as you think you might.

Very cool dude....
When I got it in 3play mode once I know the anticipation of the wait
for the multiplier and rest of hand definitely gets the pulse
up...unfortunately I then have termed getting nothing a toilet flush
for this hand. I now coin the term hitting a Royal on the 10X
multiplier a John (lucky7) Kelly hand.

Lets get some Royals, (John (lucky7) Kellys

on videopoker.com and I have not gotten anything higher than 4X. I would love to see 10x - even though this is all fun play. Keep up the great work  --- In vpFREE@yahoogroups.com, John Kelly <lodestone@...> wrote:

Harry...Mother Lode is a good term for getting dealt 4 to Royal Flush
with 10X. I wanted to post something to give some "props" to John
Kelly and I do like your suggestion, but I will stick with my coinage
of the term "toilet flush" for missing it on the redraw.
I am sure John will remember July 7, as a sidenote July 7 is also
celebrated by ultimate frisbee team players also as they play seven
against seven members on each team, and nice hit John on hand number 7.
