One afternoon about two years ago, back when the Mirage still had
some quarter 9/6 JOB four-play machines left, I ran about 4-5K
through one of them. Haven't played a dime there since. Recently
they
send me this offer: three comped nights in a tower suite, limo
pickup, $175 in food credit, and 2 spa passes, good from late Nov to
Jan 19th. Although I thought at first there must have been a
mistake, that they wouldn't send such an offer for such little
action, I called and was able to get a confirmed reservation for Jan.
But now I'm getting nervous. As most of you are aware, the
quarter VP
there currently sucks and I don't have the stomach (or the
bankroll)
to play $2 9/6 JOB. And even if I do play shortpay quarter machines,
I know it probably won't be enough to make them entirely happy.
So
the question is: How much play do I need to give them to keep them
from hassling me during my stay or having them try to renege on the
offer? And just how likely is it that they would do either in the
first place? Help!
Low Roller Gets High Roller Mirage Offer
I'm not sure how hard you tried to get them to investigate this offer
as a mistake, but there is little doubt that one was made. This
offer is more typical for a $20K (up) per day player ... not one who
played $5K on one occasion a few years ago.
So what do you do? I don't think you will have any problem just
taking this offer and not playing a dime ... the Mirage has no
history (that I'm aware of) of taking back an offer for inadequate
play during a stay, so I don't think that will be an issue. But is
this an ethical thing to do? Probably not.
I'd give them one more chance to discover the error. Tell them to
recheck your account to be sure the offer is correct (say you're not
certain the offer is appropriate for your prior play). If they re-
confirm the offer, ask if the offer is conditional based on play. If
it is conditional, obviously you decline the offer. If not ...
you've done all you can. Get the names of those involved and ask
them to put a footnote on your account noting the re-confirmation.
Then enjoy your stay (guaranteed!) and play whatever and how much you
wish ... although it is going to be difficult to find anything much
over 99% (with cashback).
If they do find your offer was a mistake, ask to speak to a manager
about replacing it with a more appropriate offer. Play your honesty
card, say you already have plane tickets, and try for a 2 or 3 day R
comp. If you can get that (and it's unconditional), look at it as a
reward (the room really costs them nothing) for honesty and don't
worry about playing at all during that stay.
Hope you will post a follow-up.

There is no ethical dilemma. The casino made the offer
without attaching any conditions and you certainly did not
coerce them. Playing subpart games or games that exceed your
bankroll is a very bad idea.
I think it is extremely unlikely that they will do anything
unpleasant. If they do try to renege, simply refuse to pay.

I got the same offer and booked it for Dec. Have not played at Mirage in abt
21/2 years and never played more than abt 15K/stay.
Really used to like staying there when they still had the 10 play .25 9/6 JB
but $2 9/6 is more risk than I want to take when other nice places have 9/6
in a less risky format.

Am planning on playing some at the Plaza in a week or so. Have very little
play there since slot club started, but I keep getting room offers. Am not
staying there this trip but they have a good selection of tap beer at the
Sports Bar so I think we will give it a try.
Who should I talk to for food comps? How much play needed for the various
restaurants? I am interested in your experiences.
Thanks

Hi Artmo
I too got a like offer on a card that had no play for well over 3
years. The strange thing I have one account joint with my wife. In
the "old days" when Mirage CB was ok I used to play on my own account
and my wife would play on joint account. Since we are serious players
our play would double our comp credits, especially rooms. 8 - 10 days
comp rooms with shows and eats was a snap between two accounts. My
offer, on old account, was 3 night "deluxe" room with a match CB free
play up to $1000. $50 food and $30 "free play" up front. Mirage must
be looking to win back some of the old business it sent down the road
in the past.
The offer was no mistake. The plan: enjoy the free ride. Play a
little if you want. Watch the $1 progressive. If it goes up during
your stay, you may be able to give them some action and be lucky
enough to land a 9-10 G royal. If your worried, save the offer. If
they charge your credit card, refuse to pay when bill comes.
However, there is no chance of them going back on the offer. I
believe you can take that to the bank. By the way, my wife got same
offer you did. Except it included match "free play" up to $1000. I am
wondering, did you offer include the "free play" also?

Yes, one "free play" dollar for each dollar in cashback earned.
However, my offer states,"There is no limit to the matching 'free
play' you can earn."
BTW, thanks to everyone who responded to my original post. I
appreciate the advice and comments. At this point I intend to go
ahead and take advantage of the offer. Will post a followup when I
get back.
