"Losing during a session"

I know it has been discussed here several times and I understand the
rational in changing machines when things are not going too swift.
However, my question concerns changing games. With the multi-denom
and multi-game platforms do people switch games when they are not
faring too well on another? With the thought being that perhaps this
will change their results. Is there a different RNG for the other
game? Is it better to focus on one game alone for the day or
session? Any replies would be appreciated.

I see people swap around to different games while playing the multi-
game machines all the time. It is an extremely common behavior.
Almost without exception, these are non-advantage players. A serious
advantage player will pick the one best game on the machine, and only
play that game. (One possible exception - if there are two "good"
games on a machine with similar ERs, an advantage player *might* switch
games just to get some variety, but this is not typical.)

Why do people swap back and forth to different games? They probably
think it will somehow turn their luck around, or maybe they are getting
bored by the current game, or any number of superstitous reasons. I
also think it's a reflection that most average players lack the
fundamental understanding that a video poker game is completely
determined by the pay table. (Of course I'm restricting the discussion
to legitimate "random" VP machines.) If they don't understand that the
pay table essentially IS the game, then they won't understand that
there is generally one "best" game on the machine, and that swapping to
the lesser games can only hurt them in the long run. They also
probably don't really understand that each different game on the
machine requires a different strategy to get the most out of the game.
For these people, swapping to different games is just like moving
around to different slot machines, except that they don't have to leave
their chair.

I'm GLAD to have these players around. Their losses help mask the
results of the good players who will only play the one best game at
near perfection.

Losing during a session probably has the effect of making me quit
sooner, but changing games or machines in an attempt to improve
results contradicts the basis on which playing was done in the first
place.

Thanks EE and Tom for your replies. I appreciate your comments. I didn't think it was possible for one to maintain their focus by switching games but as you mentioned I have seen several people do this and I was curious as to how this might effect any outcome. Once again thanks for your replies.
