Loosen up Strip casino pay-schedules---increase profits!

Al: I couldn't agree with you more on your insight, except for the one comment. I believe there are many, many more gamblers who really do know what they are doing in video poker than are on this or the other internet forums. What do we have, 4600 here or so? That's but a drop in the bucket. Many out there know the math and go to casinos to play when it favors them, and they don't want to put time in on internet discussions. They just want to line their pockets with money.

The problem is, we and they all know how to go at the game to win, but most don't. I like the free food and rooms et al, but there's usually a cost involved. So for a casino not to want a group of players like this doesn't seem probable. I know there's daily promotions ongoing in LV, and on the east coast I get flyers almost daily too. To me that says the more people who respond the better it is for the casinos, regardless of who they are.

I wish I could come up with some reliable statistics on player skill. I can't .
All I have is the observations I have made over the years.
When I go into a locals casino in Las Vegas (where the knowledgeable players go) I observe many players at poor paytable machines, playing short coin, and
playing bad strategies. The strip casinos are worse.

The casinos want lots of players to respond to their offers, but if they had a choice between us and the general run of the mill no nothing gambler, it is not
much of a guess to figure out who they would want.

I agree that player skill is often lacking, for a reason. Casino
Montelogo posts signs that claim "900 VP games with +100% payback",
or words to that effect. They make it sound like every game in the
place favors the player, since there are less than 900 VP machines
in Montelogo I'm sure. The reality is many of these machines are
MD/MG, in some cases 4 denomination choices and 8 different games ...
32 different VP games on one machine. So you have to know a lot
about VP to find that elusive +100% game (if it exists at all).
My observation is that most people in MonteLago don't know which game
is best, and could care less. I wonder if ANY of the people playing
are there because of the +100% return?

Speaking only for myself, I enjoy my once a week trips to Monte Lago.
Besides the pleasant atmosphere and tolerable clientele, the only
single line game I play there is 10/6 DDB. I like to play 10 to 15
machines per session. But I also enjoy Spin Poker there, but due to
the 9/7/5 DB and 9/6 DDB paytables, I stick with nickel and lower
denominations. Even with the sub 100% paytables, I enjoy the game very
much, and did recently get dealt a Royal for 36,000 nickels.
