As far as Hilton and Rampart go, here's my 2 cents.
Hilton rooms are okay with the elevators sometimes slow. Location is
actually off-strip a little but you have a monorail and it is $9 a
day. The CAT bus does not run there anymore but the Trolley still
does.
Food is below average for a major hotel. The buffet is hidden next
to the great Sports Book and is okay for a smallish buffet. Benihana
has a very large eatery there but it is no better than all the other
Benihanas for food and the service may be below average too. Their
steak, Italian and Mexican fade into the background too.
VP is actually pretty good if you like 9/6. Check the database and
see if their VP suits you. Craps tables have the fire bet. Regular
and video slots are somewhat below the really big casinos. There are
about a dozen or so casinos with 3,000+ but Hilton is not one of them.
Their Sports Book is the star of the casino. Lots of screens and it
is an independent line which is often better than the other Vegas
casinos as far as offering moneyline bets and sometimes straight
spread bets.
If you are a really big bettor you will be disappointed to hear that
they only go 10 dimes now. It used to be that Hilton was the huge
bettor's place but you can actually bet more per side at Palace
Station believe it or not.
Rampart has very good VP and is part of JW Marriott which is a very
nice spa, golf facility. Hilton is not a part of Harrah's as some
people think which means you can't get to Cascata by staying at
Harrah's. Rampart has golf.
The food at Rampart is okay. On Sundays, their buffet has cold crab
and shrimp but they overcook the Prime Rib. If you like medium rare
you have to get there when they just bring it out because it
continues to cook.
Spiedini sometimes gets bad reviews but I never order the Italian
there, just the grilled meats. Shizen is fairly good for sushi but
overpriced. The cafe/coffee is okay for breakfast but I have never
been there for lunch or dinner. Ceres is overpriced for what you get
unless you are a big fan of breads.
They also have the fire bet at craps. Their tables are unusually
long. The selection of slots is not bad but they seem slower than
most to get new games such as Top Gun which I saw at Caesars almost
as soon as it was available. Table limits are lower than on the
Strip or at Hilton so $5 is usually enough to get going.
There is not much entertainment at Rampart. There is no major
showroom and they don't have anything special like Hilton's Star Trek
and not so special Menopause which is ending soon or perhaps has
already.
Rampart has a nice resort feel to it. Hilton does not but has other
strengths. Rampart is the casino management for JW Marriott which
actually runs the hotel. If you want to get to the Strip there is
Marriott shuttle. I can't remember what the schedules are for it but
if you email me there is a website that has a very good
transportation segment on it that has stuff like all the backdoor
routes to the Strip casinos and advice on taxis and limos.
Rampart will probably run more than Hilton and is a better getaway
type of place, especially if the spa and golf are important to you.
If you like to be closer to the Strip and want some shows to see,
Hilton would be better.

I also am used to only going to the Harrah's casinos. Have been
getting other offers. One from Fitz, downtown Vagas. It is for three
nights, some freeplay and food. Is this casino any good? I can also
stay Wynn, NYNY, MGM, Luxor any Harrah's or Monte Carlo free nights.
Amy comments on these? Thanks:)

in AC so my game is 9/6 Jacks or if not available 8/5 Bonus at
the dollar level. I'm HET 7 star but as the strip deteriorates VP
wise and I don't want the "pressure" of play to keep RFB in places
like Wynn I'm beginning to explore some off strip non-dumpy
casinos.
Last spring I stayed a night at South Point. The rooms were
decent,pool
( GF is into this), very average, nice personnel, good VP,casino
ambience a bit below expectation and since I didn't have a car( a
mistake I now realize), felt trapped .
Two casinos that have piqued some interest are LV Hilton, and the
Rampart. Any opinions? Also, is the Hilton walking distance
from
the strip ? Any other casinos that I should look into that would
suit
···
my VP et al. needs?
