Looking For Advice

I play in AC so my game is 9/6 Jacks or if not available 8/5 Bonus at
the dollar level. I'm HET 7 star but as the strip deteriorates VP
wise and I don't want the "pressure" of play to keep RFB in places
like Wynn I'm beginning to explore some off strip non-dumpy casinos.
Last spring I stayed a night at South Point. The rooms were decent, pool
( GF is into this), very average, nice personnel, good VP,casino
ambience a bit below expectation and since I didn't have a car( a
mistake I now realize), felt trapped .
Two casinos that have piqued some interest are LV Hilton, and the
Rampart. Any opinions? Also, is the Hilton walking distance from
the strip ? Any other casinos that I should look into that would suit
my VP et al. needs?

   Thanks....Larry Feldman

LV Hilton is older but renovated and has a wide variety of room quality
and room condition. You could walk to the strip but only to the north
strip where the Riviera and Sahara are located. But it has a monorail
stop that will take you to most places on the east side of the strip.

Otherwise. on the strip Planet Hollywood and the Venetian are listed as
having $1.00 BP.

You could also find it at the Palms and Hard Rock but in particular the
Hard Rock is a younger crowd, but does have a nice pool with nice
scenery.

Beyond that I 've been to the Rampart Casino and it was decent and I
hear the attached JW Marriot hotel is very nice.

You also might want to try Red Rock or Green Valley Ranch. I've stayed
at GVR and liked the rooms and the amenities and it has a nice pool and
good shopping at the District and pretty good selection of restaurants
Panera, Cheesecake Factory, Coffee Bean, and Original Pancake House,
and others and a good to very good buffet.

The new improved slot club at the Hilton sucks (poor
comps and minimal cashback). It is walking distance to
the strip, about half a mile i'd guess, everything
else about the place is OK. You may want to consider
Sams Town, it is not dumpy, but it is not the Wynn by
a longshot, but has easy comps, nice rooms, and good
VP. If you play at the higher levels say 15k or better
coin in/day, you would probably get your RFB .

You may also want to try Planet Hollywood, they are
the new kid on the block and are looking for $
players.

The LVH has delusions of grandeur. It takes a million CI on VP to get the Ultra level card - this is $500,000 every six months. As Albert mentioned the cashback is almost non-existent, especially on any of the decent games. The buffet is way overpriced, and not very good. They do serve beer and wine with the meal though. The coffee shop is average at best. The Mexican place is pretty good, but they are not even open for lunch! The high end restaurants are okay - I like Benihana.

Rooms are being renovated and are vastly improved, but the place is still 50 years old. Noisy air handlers, lots of light in the room under doors, etc.

Sportsbook is great - now if they still had decent vp in that bar I'd go back in a minute!

There are much better places to invest your time and gambling dollar, in my opinion!

I also am used to only going to the Harrah's casinos. Have been getting other offers. One from Fitz, downtown Vagas. It is for three nights, some freeplay and food. Is this casino any good? I can also stay Wynn, NYNY, MGM, Luxor any Harrah's or Monte Carlo free nights. Amy comments on these? Thanks:)

I have stayed at the Luxor 5-6 times and was very satisfied but, I have
not stayed there since they have remodeled the innards and been bought
by MGM. They had nice rooms, with decent beds and bathrooms. I
enjoyed the "Inclinators"(Diagonally travelling elevators).
I have never spoken to anyone who enjoyed their stay at NYNY.

As far as Hilton and Rampart go, here's my 2 cents.

Hilton rooms are okay with the elevators sometimes slow. Location is
actually off-strip a little but you have a monorail and it is $9 a
day. The CAT bus does not run there anymore but the Trolley still
does.

Food is below average for a major hotel. The buffet is hidden next
to the great Sports Book and is okay for a smallish buffet. Benihana
has a very large eatery there but it is no better than all the other
Benihanas for food and the service may be below average too. Their
steak, Italian and Mexican fade into the background too.

VP is actually pretty good if you like 9/6. Check the database and
see if their VP suits you. Craps tables have the fire bet. Regular
and video slots are somewhat below the really big casinos. There are
about a dozen or so casinos with 3,000+ but Hilton is not one of them.

Their Sports Book is the star of the casino. Lots of screens and it
is an independent line which is often better than the other Vegas
casinos as far as offering moneyline bets and sometimes straight
spread bets.

If you are a really big bettor you will be disappointed to hear that
they only go 10 dimes now. It used to be that Hilton was the huge
bettor's place but you can actually bet more per side at Palace
Station believe it or not.

Rampart has very good VP and is part of JW Marriott which is a very
nice spa, golf facility. Hilton is not a part of Harrah's as some
people think which means you can't get to Cascata by staying at
Harrah's. Rampart has golf.

The food at Rampart is okay. On Sundays, their buffet has cold crab
and shrimp but they overcook the Prime Rib. If you like medium rare
you have to get there when they just bring it out because it
continues to cook.

Spiedini sometimes gets bad reviews but I never order the Italian
there, just the grilled meats. Shizen is fairly good for sushi but
overpriced. The cafe/coffee is okay for breakfast but I have never
been there for lunch or dinner. Ceres is overpriced for what you get
unless you are a big fan of breads.

They also have the fire bet at craps. Their tables are unusually
long. The selection of slots is not bad but they seem slower than
most to get new games such as Top Gun which I saw at Caesars almost
as soon as it was available. Table limits are lower than on the
Strip or at Hilton so $5 is usually enough to get going.

There is not much entertainment at Rampart. There is no major
showroom and they don't have anything special like Hilton's Star Trek
and not so special Menopause which is ending soon or perhaps has
already.

Rampart has a nice resort feel to it. Hilton does not but has other
strengths. Rampart is the casino management for JW Marriott which
actually runs the hotel. If you want to get to the Strip there is
Marriott shuttle. I can't remember what the schedules are for it but
if you email me there is a website that has a very good
transportation segment on it that has stuff like all the backdoor
routes to the Strip casinos and advice on taxis and limos.

Rampart will probably run more than Hilton and is a better getaway
type of place, especially if the spa and golf are important to you.
If you like to be closer to the Strip and want some shows to see,
Hilton would be better.

Speaking as a Hilton Diamond VIP, the rooms badly need upgrading
there - lots of odd white fixtures and burgundy carpets -- very
1980's throughout. It can be very confusing until you know where
your closest elevators are. Benihana is good, the buffet is iffy,
the 24-hour coffee shop, while service is slow at weird times, was
OK, nothing to sing about.

Actually we had our best meal in the "Star Trek" themed part of the
Hilton, "Quark's Bar." Don't do the appetizer sampler, the breaded
fried chicken tenders are leathery and tough. But the food was good
and cheesy ambiance (yes, I confess I'm a Trek fan) priceless.
Drinks (even the overpriced theme ones) are well-liquored and can
knock you on your rear if you're not careful. Also the gambling in
the "Trek" area of the casino is good -- I don't remember if they had
VP in there at all, but my partner and I did better at slots and
blackjack there than anywhere else that trip. Basically, not a lot
of fans gamble, they spend their money on collectibles. As I recall
the blackjack was two-deck and low minimum (for the above reason
probably) and we did decently.

The Fitz has it's + and -. They have problems with winners. I won a Keno tourney there and can't play in another. They have a good 8/5 BP progressive that is fast moving ($1's), they have a bank of BP machines that gives you a steak dinner coupon (good for $9 in the restaurant) for any 4K. Comp points can be redeemed int he gift shop. For some reason they are lousy in mailing out offers or may be the are jealous that 3 years ago I won a Keno tourney and also am ahead of them overall due holding an AK of spades in their $1 VP progressive 2 years ago for $5935

I've stayed at the Fitz a couple of times on there 3 nights for free
mail offer. The last time was in 2005 in the summer. I was writing
the numbers from the roulette wheel while playing. After an hour of
writing the numbers I was told by the dealer to stop writing. The
pit boss came over and I was asked to show my slot card and to stop
writing the numbers. I just left and when I eat at the buffet the
next morning I had a comp for the buffet.

The rooms have always been nice for my free stay, occasionally they
put you in a room with a view only of the casino roof but on those
occasions I asked and was moved to a room with a nice view.
